Squid Game Season 2 introduces a variety of new characters, who are ready to put their lives at stake. They participate in deadly challenges to win a cash prize that can end their financial struggles and change their lives.

As Seong Gi-hun, the sole survivor from the previous games returns to expose the VIPs and end the event, he is joined by 455 new players, who are eying to win 45.6 billion won. One of the major characters this season is Player 095, Kim Young-mi.

Actress Kim Si-eun plays Young-mi in Squid Game Season 2. She starts as a likable character, who is sympathetic toward others and concerned about her life. However, Young-mi meets with a tragic end and dies in the sixth episode.

Young-mi is killed by the guards in Squid Game Season 2

Player 095, Kim Young-mi in Squid Game Season 2 stands out as a relatable and heartwarming character. She is initially hesitant about the games and feels unsure about herself. Her quiet and kind personality makes her likable, but it also proves to be a disadvantage in the cut-throat competition.

As Young-mi enters the game, she quickly forms a friendship with Player 120, Hyun-ju, a female transgender former Special Forces soldier. While some other players mock Hyun-ju, Young-mi bonds with her without any judgments, and calls her 'unnie,' a Korean term for an older sister or close female friend.

Hyun-ju also becomes protective of her, and the two support each other during the dangerous competition. After surviving the Red Light, Green Light game, Young-mi moves ahead for the Six-Legged Pentathlon challenge, which requires teamwork and quick thinking.

Though she struggles at first, she manages to succeed in the game with Hyun-ju’s help. However, her story takes a tragic turn during the third game, Mingles. In this challenge, players are needed to immediately form teams and lock themselves in rooms before time runs out.

If they fail to do so and are left behind, they will be shot by the guards. As the players scramble to save themselves, chaos breaks out in the challenge. Amid the mayhem, Young-mi bumps into another player and falls down.

While Hyun-ju leads their team toward safety, she is too late to realize that Young-mi has not made it to the door. Before Hyun-ju can do anything, Player 333, Myung-gi, slams the door shut to save the team, while Young-mi is locked outside.

As per the rules of the game, Young-mi is executed by the guards along with the other players who failed to reach a room. Hyun-ju is heartbroken and blames Myung-gi for Young-mi’s death.

However, other players make her understand that Myung-gi had no other choice. Waiting for Young-mi would have put everyone in danger, as time would have run out before she would have reached them.

Young-mi’s loss leaves an emotional scar on Hyun-ju and the rest of the team. Though Young-mi is not the loudest or the strongest player, her kindness, quiet nature, and friendship with Hyun-ju make her an unforgettable character.

She represents the common people who get caught up in the cruel system of the Squid Game. However, the game goes on after her death and her friends have to continue their fight for survival.

Along with Kim Si-eun as Young-mi, Squid Game season 2 stars Lee Jung-jae as Seong Gi-hun, Wi Ha-joon as Hwang Jun-ho, Im Si-wan as Lee Myung-gi, Lee Byung-hun as Hwang In-ho, Park Sung-hoon as Cho Hyun-ju, Kang Ha-neul as Kang Dae-ho, Lee Jin-wook as Park Gyeong-seok, and Jo Yu-ri as Kim Jun-hee.

All episodes of Squid Game Season 2 are available to stream on Netflix.
