With the conclusion of The Batman's (2022) first direct spin-off, the TV series, The Penguin, many might be wondering about Victor Aguilar's tragic fate. Despite being one of the closest to Oz Cobb and working as his sidekick, Victor couldn't escape his boss' narcissistic nature and was killed by him.

Featuring Colin Farrell in the titular role of DC's notorious villain Oz Cobb (also known as Penguin), the spin-off series introduced a fresh character named Victor, an unlikely sidekick played by Rhenzy Feliz. His role is quite similar to Robin in the Batman series, as he proved to be Oz’s loyal assistant and right-hand man.

Even though The Penguin didn't feature major Gotham heroes like Robert Pattinson's Caped Crusader, the addition of Victor as a fresh character enriched the Batman lore. As seen in the first episode of the mini-series, Oz's life became complicated after he killed Alberto Falcone, and learned about Sofia Falcone's release from Arkham Asylum.

Since Oz was set to expand his reign of terror, he first crossed paths with one of Carmine Falcone's rivals Sal Maroni who initially underestimated him. The Batman villain proved Maroni wrong by gifting him a ring that Falcone once took away from him.

However, this doesn't mean that it was Oz who made this happen, as it was Victor who helped him get the ring. But how did a teenager from Gotham City become Oz's sidekick? Continue reading to get your answer.

Introduced in The Penguin Episode 1, Victor Aguilar is a young and inexperienced teenager who steps into the world of crime due to a lack of opportunities in Gotham City. He tries to steal the rims of Oz's Maserati but ends up getting caught by Oz, himself.

Penguin rarely thought of sparing the lives of people who tried to wrong him and even killed his own brothers and never confessed to the crime. However, when he caught Victor, the young lad's bold actions impressed him.

So, instead of harming Victor, which many viewers might have expected, Oz took him under his wings. This marked the beginning of Penguin and his sidekick Victor's complicated relationship.

The teenager was resourceful and intelligent but was grieving the loss of his family. His situation made him vulnerable, but he tried to remain strong throughout. He gradually became Oz's confidant, who not only helped him steal the ring but also helped deliver Alberto Falcone's corpse to Sofia Falcone. This gruesome task showed how far Victor could go for Oz, even at the cost of challenging his personal boundaries.

Since Victor was following up with everything that Penguin had asked him, no one would have thought of his end at the hands of Oz. In the last episode of The Penguin, Victor and Oz sat together and Victor expressed his deep appreciation for his boss and called him family. Surprisingly, Oz reciprocated his feelings, and for a brief moment, it felt like the two had formed a great bond.

However, when Oz made his next move, it resulted in Victor's tragic end. Despite learning about Victor's admiration for him, Oz killed him, setting off a violent chain of events. Lauren LeFranc, the showrunner of The Penguin explained (via Deadline):

"Oz has shown himself to be someone who is narcissistic and lives in his own delusion... Victor is like family. Yet Victor saw Oz at his weakest, at his most vulnerable. Oz really feels like he needs a level of power. He can’t have weakness, so he kills Victor."

Though Oz craved affection and love, he also saw them as weaknesses and threats to his power. Victor saw Oz at his weakest. So, to protect his fragile ego and assert his dominance, Oz decided to kill Victor Aguilar in the end.

Rhenzy Feliz, who portrayed Victor also mentioned being aware of Victor's fate. When he first met the showrunner, Feliz realized that his character's fate was sealed and this helped him to shape Victor Aguilar's journey.
