In Yellowjackets Season 1, Misty and Natalie set out on a mission to find Travis. Misty had tracked him down to a shack, and the two of them broke in, only to discover that he works for minimum wage at Willow Brook Ranch. Before they can investigate further, a cop catches them trespassing and arrests them.
Misty manages to get them out on bail, and Natalie decides they should head to the ranch to find Travis. However, when they arrive, they make a horrifying discovery, Travis’ body is hanging from the rafters in a barn. Seeing him like that, Natalie breaks down in tears, but Misty quickly pulls her away. Before the police can arrive, they flee the scene.
On the way, Misty shares something important: she found a note in Travis' shack that read, "Tell Nat she was right." She asks Natalie if she knows what it means. Natalie doesn’t, but she’s certain of one thing, Travis didn’t kill himself.
Did Travis really die by suicide?
Natalie refuses to accept the official suicide report. Lottie’s story suggests Travis was trying to face his inner demons, not end his life. He thought that by getting close to death, he could uncover the truth about the darkness they once faced.
But something still doesn’t add up. Why did the crane suddenly stop working? Why did Lottie see a vision right after his death? Was the wilderness really involved? Or is Lottie an unreliable witness?
Determined to find the truth, Natalie begins investigating Travis’ death on her own. Sometimes, Misty and her old classmate Kevyn Tan, now a detective, help her. Natalie persuades Kevyn to give her access to Travis’ toxicology report, which confirms he wasn’t on drugs before his death.
In search of more information, she asks Misty to contact Stallion99, a hacker from the online citizen detective community. Natalie wants him to hack into Kevyn’s email. Misty hesitates at first, as Natalie has been ignoring her, but eventually, she agrees.
Lottie’s story about Travis
Lottie explains that after Travis died, she was worried Natalie might hurt herself. So, she sent people to watch over her.
She reveals that on the night Travis died, he called her, saying "the wilderness is back." He told her he knew what he needed to do but hung up before explaining.
Lottie was scared and drove all night to find him. When she arrived, he looked terrified. Travis told her he needed to get close to death because, in the past, when she and Van almost died, they saw something. He wanted to see it too.
Lottie told him he was stuck in his trauma and needed to stop. She thought he had listened, but she fell asleep. When she woke up, he was gone. She found a note that said, "Tell Nat she was right," and instructions to access his bank account.
She rushed to the barn and found Travis lighting candles in a pattern that matched the strange symbol. He had set up a crane to hang himself. Lottie demanded to know what he was doing, and Travis explained that he needed to pass out so he could "talk to the darkness."
Lottie begged him not to go through with it, but he warned that if she didn’t help him, he would do it alone. Finally, she agreed to lower him down once he lost consciousness. But something went wrong, the crane’s remote stopped working, and she couldn’t bring him back in time.
Natalie doesn’t trust Lottie’s story. She feels like something is missing. But Lottie insists it was just a horrible accident.
Lottie also remembers something strange. While trying to revive Travis, she had a vision. She saw herself being baptized by Laura Lee, heard voices chanting, and then saw Laura Lee’s face turn into a rotting corpse. She swears she was trying to save Travis.
Natalie, however, isn’t convinced. She angrily tells Lottie that every time she "tries to save someone," things end in disaster.
Travis' death remains a mystery, and Natalie won’t stop until she uncovers the truth.
