Since releasing on August 28, 2024, Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever has left viewers dumbfounded with its stories. Episode 2 of the series unraveled Sumasar’s chilling story, highlighting the utter injustice in her false imprisonment despite being a victim of s*xual abuse.
Per the official synopsis of the episode, Sumasar was a budding entrepreneur and a financial advisor. She lived in Queens, New York with her daughter, Chiara.
After resigning from her Wall Street job, Sumasar went on to open her restaurant, Golden Crust - rendering her too busy for anything else. That was until she encountered a cop named Jerry Ramrattan and was immediately smitten by him.
All was well in their romantic relationship until Sumasar received the call that changed her life forever. Little did she know, Ramrattan was a conman with a penchant for revenge.
What happened to Seemona Sumasar from Netflix's Worst Ex Ever?
Ramrattan and Sumasar quickly developed a romantic relationship that lasted for two years after they first met in 2006. One afternoon when Sumasar was busy working, she received a flabbergasting call from Ramrattan’s wife! Not only was he married, but had two kids and was lying about his job.
She immediately sought to confront him and put an end to their relationship after confirming the truth from Ramrattan. Little did she know that wasn’t the last time she’d see her ex-boyfriend. Shortly after they broke up, Ramrattan arrived at her door to allegedly return the keys to her place.
After much convincing, Sumasar reluctantly opened the door, and that’s when it all went south. As soon as she turned her back, Ramrattan pushed her face down and duck taped her hands and mouth. He’d also brought his reportedly illegal gun and threatened her to take him back.
After her refusal, he forcibly r*ped her. Sumasar claimed that instead of her crying, it was he who cried after it was over and simply got up and fled the scene. After ensuring he’d left her residence, Sumasar informed local authorities who assisted her and ensured a r*pe kit at the hospital.
It appeared to be an open-shut case: Ramrattan’s DNA checked out and the trial was about to commence. A few days before the rape trial, Sumasar was en route to Nassau County - driving, when she was suddenly pulled over by police.
Perplexed, she obeyed the law only to find herself handcuffed and on the way to the Long Island interrogation room! Despite her desperate pleas to Detective Charlie and persistent claims that she was being framed by Ramrattan, she wasn't taken seriously.
In a shocking turn of events, she was charged with impersonating a police officer and armed robbery landing her in prison. Sumasar was accused of robbing Rajiv, Luz Johnson, and Terrell Lovell at gunpoint. They each described her brandishing a black handgun with a gold badge around her neck.
At the trial, everything was against her despite strong evidence suggesting that she wasn’t at the site of the robberies. With bail set at a million dollars, Sumasar was sent to Nassau County Corrections Facility where she spent seven months of her life.
How was Seemona Sumsar’s innocence proven in Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever?
In Worst Ex Ever, Ramrattan’s former friend makes an anonymous appearance. It was through him and another ex-girlfriend that Sumasar’s innocence was finally proven. After learning about her arrest, his friend was reminded about his last meetup with Ramrattan.
During an evening that involved alcohol, Ramrattan had let the sinister plan slip and asked his friend to play a role in it. Ramrattan’s plan included staging three robberies that would eventually get linked to Sumasar’s license number in Nassau leading to her fool-proof arrest.
Sumasar was in lock up for five months when the realization hit for this anonymous person. In his attempt to get her out, he confronted Rajiv - a primary witness who testified against her and happened to be Ramrattan’s cousin.
His efforts proved futile after Ramrattan concocted the plan to have him arrested for witness tampering. A few months later, Ramrattan’s ex-girlfriend showed up to reveal his chilling confession.
Not only did she confirm his devilish plan, but also proved that Sumasar’s aforementioned pleas of her being set up were true! After new information emerged, they found evidence of Ramrattan colluding with all three witnesses offering them $20,000 in exchange for making a false robbery report.
Furthermore, the prosecutors put two and two together about him setting Sumasar up. After spending seven traumatic months in prison - falsely accused no less, she was finally released. Sumasar was proven innocent and an investigation was opened into Ramrattan's involvement.
As a result of his crimes against her, Ramrattan received no mercy and got the maximum for rape, which was 25 years followed by an additional 7 years in prison.
Where is Seemona Sumasar from Netflix’s Worst Ex Ever now?
