In the 10-episode series Running Point, Kate Hudson plays Isla Gordon, a woman who unexpectedly becomes the president of the Los Angeles Waves, a fictional basketball team. Isla takes over after her older brother Cam (played by Justin Theroux) steps down to enter rehab for drug and alcohol addiction.
Going from managing the team’s charity work to running the entire organization is a huge shift for Isla in Running Point. She struggles but slowly finds her footing. However, her new responsibilities come at a cost; her relationship with her fiancé, Lev Levenson (played by Max Greenfield), begins to suffer.
Isla’s new role creates distance in her relationship
Isla is deeply committed to her job, but in doing so, she becomes an absent partner to Lev. While Lev continuously supports her, she rarely makes time for him.
One major turning point is when Lev is set to receive a prestigious PEDO award. Instead of attending, Isla gets caught up in other obligations, taking Travis to rehab and then accidentally going to the wrong venue, completely missing Lev’s big moment.
This isn’t an isolated incident. Throughout the season, Isla repeatedly prioritizes work over her relationship. Even when Lev expresses his frustration, she remains too focused on proving herself as the team’s leader.
By the time the season finale of Running Point arrives, Isla is juggling multiple crises. The Waves make it to the biggest game they’ve played in five years, but they suffer a heartbreaking loss. Meanwhile, her relationship with Lev is falling apart.
After a month of separation, Isla learns that Lev is considering a job in Minneapolis. Desperate to fix things, she rushes to his office to express her love. However, Lev seems emotionally distant.
A shocking revelation follows; Isla realizes she barely knows Lev anymore. She doesn’t even know basic details about him, like the fact that he has a tooth implant. This moment highlights just how disconnected they’ve become.
Lev eventually decides to leave their shared home and move to Minnesota. Isla, heartbroken, follows him to the hospital for one last attempt to make him stay. But instead of giving her a clear answer, Lev asks for time to think things over.
One of the biggest surprises in Running Point's finale is Lev’s absence from the Waves’ final game. Given how much he had supported Isla in the past, his decision not to show up speaks volumes.
It’s unclear what his final decision will be, leaving fans of Running Point eager for a second season to find out if Isla and Lev can mend their relationship or if they are truly done for good.
