A Jacksonville paramedic and firefighter, Derrick had returned from his shift to find his wife’s brutally beaten dead body on the bedroom floor already in an advanced state of rigor mortis.

Lance Kirkpatrick was taken into custody by the authorities based on the DNA evidence found from Kim’s body and Lance’s confession. As per the court documents, he was chraged with burglary, assault, first-degree murder, and rape.

While Lance did confess to his crime, he tried to manipulate the investigation in his favor. He said that though he killed Kim with a knife and a pool stick, it only happened because they got into an argument regarding Lance helping Derrick meet other women.

Derrick had already mentioned Lance as a “sick and twisted individual.” After Lance’s conviction, Derrick further mentioned, “I just wanted to give a voice to Kim. I wanted to be there for her and I wanted to help them with the narrative.”

However, Derrick also admitted to cheating on Kim with other women, some of whom he did meet via Lance. But, that did not change the fact that Lance had raped and killed Kim, as it was clear by the autopsy.

Currently, Lance is serving a life-sentence at the Florida prison, without the hope of ever seeing light outside the jail.
