Yellowstone Season 5 finale concluded the epic saga and the long-time efforts of the Duttons to preserve their family ranch.
The finale episode saw the family finally burying John Dutton to rest with his wife and eldest son and his children doing everything in their power to honor his legacy and the ranch.
As per the 1883 prophecy stating that the Duttons would only have the ranch for seven generations and would have to give it back to the Native Americans, the family finally sold it after 141 years.
Kayce is finally happy after he sells the ranch and moves with his family into the East Side Camp. More on how Kayce sold the Dutton ranch and what became of his family in the Yellowstone finale in our story.

Did Kayce and his family get a happy ending in the Yellowstone finale?
As John's only surviving legitimate son, Kayce sure had a lot of responsibility on his shoulders throughout the series. But in the end, he sold the ranch and chose freedom instead of a life of uncertainty.
Kayce is a cowboy at heart, and he proves it by starting a new life with his wife Monica and son Tate. Their family moves into the East side camp, which is still with the Duttons as per Rainwater's contract.
He starts his brand and buys 300 cattle with Tate, and it is hinted that Kayce is about to embark on an adventure and legacy of his own, just like his father. While Kayce has much more experience now seeing his father's past mistakes, one might wonder how long he can protect his new legacy from the outside forces.
As the voiceover at the end of the episode says,
''Raw land, wild land, free land can never be owned. But some men pay dearly for the privilege of stewardship. They will suffer and sacrifice to live off it and live with it''
After 5 seasons of hard work and struggle to keep his father's vision intact, Kayce finally gets his happy ending in the end as he begins a new life with a fresh slate.
Kayce finally got his peace after selling the Dutton Ranch in the Yellowstone finale
One of the biggest conflicts for Yellowstone's finale was about the future of the Dutton Ranch and who will finally get it. While Season 5's penultimate episode saw Kayce telling his sister Beth that the only way they could save the ranch was by selling it, the finale saw the brother-sister duo execute this plan.
While the Ranch was symbolic of the Dutton's seven generations who have lived and taken care of that land, it was time to tune in with the modern world, which they did not want. In a time of industrialization, Kayce did not want to see his father's vision go awry for the land, so he sold the land to Thomas Rainwater for $1.25 an acre.
Since neither the Duttons nor Rainwater could have afforded an inheritance tax on the property, it was sold at the same value his ancestors bought it back in the 1800's.
But Kayce did get his peace even after losing the Dutton Ranch because it was sold under two conditions- that Rainwater would keep the East Side Camp for Kayce and his family and that he could never develop the land.
Knowing that the ranch will always have its wilderness preserved and no motorized vehicle will enter the premises, John's vision and legacy will forever be honored.
