Criminal Minds will turn 20 years old this September. Season 3 introduced us to the character of David Stephen Rossi or David Rossi, played by actor Joe Mantegna. He has been seen in the CBS police procedural drama since September 2007. It is also to be noted that the show was retitled Criminal Minds: Evolution in 2022.
Recently, people were worried about the character's fate in the previous season. While Rossi from Criminal Minds is alive and well, we can't say he is doing well. Throughout the second season of Evolution, we see David Rossi in his most vulnerable state. This vulnerability has several fans asking about Joe Mantegna's future in the CBS series. This has fans asking, "Does Rossi die in Criminal Minds?"
Does Rossi die in Criminal Minds: Evolution season 2?
We see Rossi’s mental vulnerability in Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2 as seen by the character hallucinating the "unsub" or "unknown subject" serial killer Voit. While the BAU (Behavioral Analysis Unit) has encountered countless criminals over the years, Voit might be the one who got under Rossi's skin the most, other than Tommy Yates in season 12.
Voit abducted and attempted to murder Rossi in the previous season's finale, and now he could very well get away with his Sicarius murders. So, it isn't surprising that the serial killer has impacted Rossi this way. Rossi's visions of Voit ask this question when he survived the Aida Limited explosion and season 2 finale. The question is:
“Do you ever think if I hadn’t opened my mouth about Gold Star, none of this ever would have happened?”
Voit mentioning “Gold Star” was why FBI Director Madison agreed to pardon the “Sicarius” charges. This question is how Joe Mantegna's Rossi realizes Voit is the mastermind behind Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2's “Gold Star.” He also realizes that all of Voit's “help” was a trap for the BAU.
How does Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2’s conclusion set up the third season?
Viewers had a lot of questions when the Evolution Season 2 finale concluded, so they were relieved when the series was renewed for a third season. The most important one is if Voit survived getting attacked in prison. In case he survived, there are numerous potential future storylines about Voit in prison.
We also learned in the second season finale that Tyler will most probably get the profiler job he applied for, changing the team dynamics. However, Tyler might not be the only likely change the BAU might have to adjust to. After getting rescued, Emily learns in a meeting with FBI Director Madison that BAU’s budget and even power could probably increase in season 3.
What is Criminal Minds about?
Premiered in 2005, Criminal Minds follows the BAU trying to solve violent crimes. Joe Mantegna's David Rossi is a senior supervisory special agent who is an experienced profiler. The synopsis for the series reads:
"The FBI's elite team of criminal profilers faces their greatest threat yet: an Unsub who built a network of serial killers during the pandemic."
