What happened to Jessica Roberts in Yellowjackets? Character's fate, explored in depth

Jessica Roberts (Rekha Sharma) was a journalist in Yellowjackets who was first seen in the premiere episode itself. She was shown to be investigating the plane crash through surviving members like Shauna (Melanie Lynskey), the teacher, and others.

Given that the plane crash was frequently referenced in the show through flashbacks, it was one of the founding events of the narrative and Jessica’s investigation after it seemed to be fueled by some kind of motive other than just doing a report on it.

As Jessica tries to get to the members of the Yellowjackets team and get them to talk, she does not find much success with Shauna. However, then she is contacted by Misty, who she thinks might talk.

Unfortunately she is severely wrong about it and Misty (Christina Ricci) not only holds her hostage in her basement but also kills her by lacing her cigarettes with drugs. Misty killed Jessica Roberts in Yellowjackets

As mentioned previously, Jessica Roberts is killed by Misty in Yellowjackets Season 1. Though her death is not shown on screen, her death is strongly implied, and showrunner Ashley Lyle later confirmed it,

"No, she's dead. Misty very much killed her, yeah."

Misty held Jessica hostage in her basement because she thought Jessica was the one who had been blackmailing the members of Yellowjacket. Jessica’s wrong move was listening to Kevyn Tan and Natalie’s conversation and trying to gather more information on Travis’ death.

As Misty got wind of Jessica snooping around, she suspected her of blackmail and lured her into her house with the promise of some information that Jessica was looking for. However, upon reaching Misty’s house, Jessica realizes her mistake as she is taken hostage and kept in the basement.

Misty lets Jessica go when Adam Martin’s death occurs. While initially it feels like Jessica is finally free, it is soon proven wrong when she is shown passing out in her car just after taking a drag of one of her cigarettes, which were laced with drugs by Misty.

Jessica was hired by Taissa in Yellowjackets

While her death happened in Yellowjackets Season 1, Jessica’s character is mentioned again in season 2 when Misty confirms that she “took care” of Jessica, clearly hinting at killing her.

She further reveals that Jessica was actually directly hired by Taissa (Tawny Cypress) to keep an eye on the surviving girls of the plane crash to understand if any of them might provide any information about their past, which could potentially hinder her political career.

Taissa also tries to contact Jessica in season 2, which shows that she has no idea about her death. When she can’t reach her over the phone, Taissa heads to her apartment and upon entering it seems like no one has been there for a while. This means the police have also not started investigating Jessica’s disappearance and death.

It now remains to be seen if the Yellowjackets storyline will be going back to the Jessica plot, which would mean further trouble for both Misty and Taissa.
