Jesse and Clara are no longer part of When Calls the Heart and will not appear in season 9. This news was revealed in trailers before the season aired. However, fans who didn’t watch the trailers might have been surprised to learn about their absence during the Season 9 premiere on Hallmark.
Many fans were shocked by their departure because Jesse and Clara played a big role in Season 8. Their story had many ups and downs, making them an important part of the show.
One of the major events in Season 8 was when Jesse went missing. He had left to take care of something but got caught in a dangerous storm. Nathan later found him, bringing relief to Clara and the rest of the town.
Another major storyline involved Jesse losing all their savings due to a bad investment with Wyland. This put a lot of stress on the couple, but in the finale, he was able to get the money back.
With such an eventful season, many fans expected to see more of Jesse and Clara in season 9. But instead, their characters were quietly written out of the show.
What happened to Jesse and Clara?
According to actress Erin Krakow, who plays Elizabeth on the show, Jesse and Clara left Hope Valley to start a new life together. She explained this in an interview with the Hallmarkies podcast.
“They’re homesteading,” Krakow said.
“Their characters are homesteading somewhere as newlyweds, but they’re not in Hope Valley with us this season. We miss them.”
In simple terms, Jesse and Clara moved away to start a homestead in Montana. This means they wanted to build a new home and life in the countryside, which was common in those days.
Their departure is not shown on-screen, but in Season 9, the characters still exist in the When Calls the Heart world. Their friends in Hope Valley mention them and even receive letters from them, letting fans know that they are doing well.
As of now, there is no official confirmation about whether Jesse and Clara will return to When Calls the Heart. The actors who played them, Aren Buchholz (Jesse) and Eva Bourne (Clara), have moved on to other projects. However, since their characters weren’t killed off, there’s always a chance they could return in the future.
For now, fans can only hope to see Jesse and Clara again in Hope Valley someday.
