The Lincoln Lawyer may well be into season 3, but the show has maintained a gripping storyline from its inception. Some might argue that the first season of The Lincoln Lawyer had the most intriguing plot, with the main storyline of Jerry Vincent's murder and the subplot of the case Mickey inherited from him.

The Lincoln Lawyer is based on Michael Connelly's book The Brass Verdict. While Mickey Haller inherits his former colleague Jerry's practice, he must also find his killer.

Mickey also inherits one of Jerry's most high-profile cases, of a billionaire video game developer named Trevor Elliot, who is accused of killing his wife and her lover.

More about Jerry's killer and the case he was working on before he died in our story.

Was Jerry's death related to his last case in The Lincoln Lawyer?

While Mickey represented Trevor in court, he was found not guilty, thanks to Mickey's arguments about how Trevor would not have had sufficient time to hide his blood-stained clothes and murder weapon before the police arrived.

But surprise, surprise! As it turns out, Trevor was the killer who had used a drone to hide his clothes and the weapon. Jerry was threatened while being on the case, which led to his eventual death. Mickey also received similar threats, which he thought were tied to The Russian billionaire's interest in Trevor's company.

Trevor killed his wife Lara because he knew that she was about to divorce him for her lover. This would have made Lara eligible to claim half of the company and the intellectual property of the code Trevor had created. We also learned that Trevor had possibly bribed a juror at court, which could have led to Jerry's killer, too.

Mickey learned that Judge Holder accepted bribes and rigged juries for extra income. McSweeny, or juror number 7, was the rigged juror appointed by Holder through Trevor's bribe. When Jerry suspected the judge's side hustle of jury rigging, he intentionally planned a breach of ethics.

This required a second jury selection, leaving Holder's planted juror out of the picture. But when the judge learned about Jerry's plan to expose her misconduct in court, she had him killed through McSweeny.

It was revealed that McSweeny killed Jerry on the order from Holder. This came to light when she admitted to killing Jerry, not knowing that she was wiretapped. She was then taken into custody by Detective Griggs. Since her side business of unethical practices while being a judge would end her career and also had legal consequences for her, she ended up ordering her planted juror to kill Jerry.

While it was unfortunate that Jerry died, Mickey proved himself worthy of inheriting his practice by not only serving justice to his killer but also solving his last case on his behalf. The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 premiered on Netflix on May 13, 2022, followed by season 2 in July 2023. The show made a comeback with season 3 on October 17, 2024. The legal drama is expected to return with season 4.
