NBC's long-running procedural Chicago Fire has witnessed a lot of cast exits from the show throughout the year, but they will always remain a special part of the franchise.

Monica Raymund's Gabby Dawson was one such character who left the show in Season 6 after Chief Hatcher offered her a job in Puerto Rico, and she took it. While she returned twice for a cameo appearance, Raymund's Gabby officially left Chicago and her job in Season 6.

Gabby started in Season 1 as a paramedic in charge of Ambulance 61 in Firehouse 51. She later became a firefighter, too, thus becoming a main cast member of Chicago Fire.

Raymund left the show in Season 6 because her contract was up, and she felt that it was time for her to take on more diverse acting opportunities according to an interview she did with Chicago Tribute.

More on Gabby's exit from the show in our story.

Gabby had a difficult relationship with Matthew throughout Chicago Fire

While Gabby and Matt were attracted to each other, they officially acted on their feelings in Chicago Fire Season 2 Episode 8. While their relationship was often rocky, the two finally got an opportunity to become parents when Gabby got pregnant in Season 4.

While the would-be-parents were ecstatic over the news, their joy was short-lived because Gabby suffered a miscarriage. This was in a crossover with Chicago Med, where Will Halstead delivered this difficult news to Firehouse 51. The two finally got married in Chicago Fire's 100th episode.

The couple tried to adopt a boy named Louie, who Gabby had rescued, but the court placed him with his birth father. Gabby was later told that she only had a 10% chance of getting pregnant again, and it could even be dangerous for her.

This created problems in Gabby's marriage as she wanted to try to get pregnant anyway, but Matt was against it.

Gabby was at the cusp of a bad marriage when Chief Hatcher told her about Puerto Rico in the Season 6 finale:

"Puerto Rico is still in a bad way. There's a lot of people in need of power and assistance, so we're thinking about sending some paramedics down there to help with the relief efforts and I need some volunteers."

While Gabby did not want to leave Chicago, after she had a fight with Matt about their parenthood options, she decided to take the job and moved to Puerto Rico, leaving the show.

Did Gabby return after leaving Chicago Fire Season 6?

While Monica Raymund left Chicago Fire for good after Season 6, she did return for an occasional cameo on the show.

After her exit from the show, Chief Boden introduced Sylvie Brett as her new replacement in Season 7. Matt also discussed how he was facing more problems in his marriage as the couple was having communication problems over long distances.

Later in that season, Gabby made a guest appearance when she visited Chicago to get her things so she could move to Puerto Rico permanently. While she offered her husband to join her, he denied saying that he is a 'Chicago Man'.

After about a year, Gabby again returned for a cameo in Chicago Fire Season 8 Episode 9, to attend a two-day fundraiser in Chicago. While Matt did go to the event as her date, the couple officially parted ways after that and Matt married Sylvie Brett in Season 12.

While Gabby left the show in Season 6, her fans will always remember her presence and legacy.
