The Rookie is a show known for its thrilling storylines and rich, complex characters. One character who left a significant impression despite his short time on the show is Detective Kevin Wolfe. But what exactly happened to him, and why is his story so impactful? Let’s dive in to understand.
Detective Kevin Wolfe appeared in Season 1 as an experienced officer within the LAPD. Played by Demetrius Grosse, the character is introduced in the seventh episode of the debut season and goes on to appear in four more epsiodes.
Wolfe is portrayed as a disciplined and capable officer. His demeanor seems like someone who follows all the rules. He continues to be a part of the team in the first season and works on several cases; however, Wolfe does not make any appearances after The Rookie season 1 episode 19.
The Rookie: What happened to Detective Kevin Wolfe?
Detective Kevin Wolfe is an important guest character in The Rookie season 1 who works with the officers of the Mid-Wilshire. He mostly teams up with Elijah Vestri to investigate various criminals.
One of Wolfe’s biggest cases involves going undercover to catch a drug dealer named Marcus Vance. Things go horribly wrong when Vance shoots Isabel Bradford, who is helping the police. She is badly injured but survives. Later, Wolfe and Vestri go to an apartment complex where Vance’s gang is hiding.
When they get out of an elevator, they are ambushed and shot several times. Wolfe is seriously hurt but makes it to the hospital, while Vestri dies at the scene. His death is a terrible loss for the team and for Wolfe.
Even after being injured, Wolfe keeps working. In another case, he helps Officer John Nolan arrest the man who attacks Nolan’s friend, Ben McRee. This arrest also leads to the shutting down of a car smuggling ring. Wolfe’s experience makes him a reliable officer, and Nolan often works with him on tough cases.
Meanwhile, Wolfe is also there to guide Nolan through a stressful time in The Rookie. When Ben McRee is badly beaten during a carjacking, Wolfe and Nolan find out that the attacker is part of a bigger group that steals and resells expensive cars.
Instead of just arresting Ben’s attacker, Wolfe wants to take down the whole operation. With help from Officers Lopez and West, they arrest the criminals. Throughout his time as a detective, Wolfe stays strong and dedicated, even after almost dying on the job.
He helps put dangerous criminals behind bars and also mentors younger officers. However, Kevin Wolfe's story comes to an abrupt end in season 1 itself. Though he does not die or leave the LAPD, he stops making appearances in further episodes.
The Rookie creators never explained why Wolfe was written off the show, and actor Demetrius Grosse also remained tight-lipped about it. Following his exit from the ABC series, the actor has appeared in shows like Fear the Walking Dead, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Swagger.
