In season 1, Danny Huston's character, Dan Jenkins, was first presented as the primary adversary. A Paradise Valley land developer, he was at odds with the Dutton family because he intended to construct a private club in Montana.

He attempted to hurt the Duttons and grab their land during Season 1 in an attempt to take over the Yellowstone Ranch. He was captured by the Duttons and strung up as a warning to leave them alone in the season finale.

In season 2, Jenkins reappeared, having reached an uneasy agreement with John Dutton and Thomas Rainwater to combat a new threat: the Beck Brothers. These aggressive developers also attacked the Duttons, so the three men formed an alliance to combat them. However, despite the agreement, Jenkins' destiny was sealed when the Beck Brothers dispatched hitmen to kill him.

Jenkins was attacked at home in the season two finale. Two of the assassins were killed by him, but the third hitman shot him in the chest, killing him. Jenkins' closing remarks, which reflected his strong ties to the land, were an appeal for his freedom to live wherever he pleased.

His story on Yellowstone came to an end when he was killed by the brutal troops attempting to seize control of Montana's territory.

Dan Jenkins' killing underlined the brutality of the milieu in which the Duttons lived, as well as the threats posed by other prominent persons. Despite his terrible intentions, Jenkins died suddenly and tragically.
