The story of Calvin in Virgin River goes through various twists and turns. He is introduced as the owner of a massive cannabis farm and the head of a dangerous gang in the first season.

Apart from cannabis, Calvin is also involved in other shady dealings. He immediately clashes with Jack, who tries to protect the town from his illegal activities.

Calvin becomes the center of a major conflict when he forces Jack and Mel to stay on his farm so Mel can treat his gunshot wound. Calvin also manipulates Dan Brady, Jack’s former employee and friend, into joining his gang.

Calvin’s character arc takes a different turn in Virgin River season 4 when he realizes that the police might bust his drug business soon. He tries to escape on a boat which explodes, making everyone think he is dead.

His associates Brady and Melissa Montgomery begin to think that he is dead after his body is nowhere to be seen. This enables Melissa to disrupt the criminal network and take over Calvin's operations.

However, Calvin makes a surprising return in season 5. He shows up unexpectedly during the town’s Labor Day festival, leaving locals like Charmaine Roberts shocked. Calvin reveals that his boat explosion was not an accident, but a planned attack by Melissa, who was after his life.

It turns out that Calvin survived the explosion, and turned as a witness against Melissa, which led the FBI to drop charges against him. As Melissa is arrested, it gives an opportunity to Calvin to return to the town and take back his business.

At the same time, Calvin’s return affects Charmaine. She confesses that he is the biological father of her unborn twins, a secret she kept because of his criminal record. Instead, Jack was believed to be the father.

Charmaine admits she got involved with Calvin when she was sad and drunk during a tough phase of her life. In the Virgin River season 5 finale, Calvin visits the clinic during Charmaine’s delivery. However, Mel then steps in and forces him to leave as his presence causes stress to the mother-to-be.

Calvin might make a return in Virgin River season 6, which is slated to premiere on Netflix on December 19, 2024.
