Anatomy of Lies is a three-episode documentary on Peacock that narrates the tale of former Grey's Anatomy writer and alleged grifter Elisabeth Finch. It is based on an investigation by Vanity Fair to unearth the multitude of lies spoken and propagated by Elisabeth Finch to climb the career ladder, leading up to her joining the writer's room on Grey's Anatomy and after.
In a rare case where the subtle difference is blurred for dramatic effect, the documentary has outed Finch as someone who lied about her illness and past trauma to move on ahead in life.
Anatomy of Lies first appeared in print from writer and editor Evgenia Peretz. Once Finch's massive set of lies were exposed to the world, she swelled the ranks of the modern age grifter, with her predecessors being such big names as Elizabeth Holmes and Anna Delvey.
According to the documentary, Finch not only lied about her suffering from a rare form of cancer to land a writing gig on Shonda Rimes' show but frequently poached on her co-workers' experience to generate storylines as well as harped on her ex-wife's traumatic past for ideating narratives.
Here's all that we know.
Anatomy of Lies exposes Grey's Anatomy writer Elisabeth Finch's lies
Every lie eventually forms a burden on the truth to the extent that the liar has to subsequently pay the price. This was the case with Elisabeth Finch. According to a report by The Ankler, Elisabeth lied about suffering from a rare form of bone cancer called chondrosarcoma in 2012.
When she landed the writer's job on Shonda Rhimes' acclaimed show Grey's Anatomy in 2014, she told her colleagues that regular chemotherapy and medication had been unable to make a dent in her cancerous condition, which might have by then metastasized. She would regularly wrap her head with a scarf to hide her hair from the supposed hairless due to the effects of chemotherapy medication. Moreover, she would periodically take breaks from the writing job to vomit and only ate saltines for an extended period.
This wasn't the end of her lies, however. She next came up with the assertion that chemotherapy had caused one of her kidneys to fail, and her colleagues often found her with a dummy attached to her arm. She also lied about the fact that her tibia was surgically removed and that she had to ab*rt a fetus since her pregnancy had been made untenable due to chemotherapy.
Anatomy of Lies further reveals that apart from faking her medical history to gain prominence and attention from her co-workers, Finch was also in the habit of fabricating other events in her life to serve her purpose. Back in 2018, a terrorist attack at the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh killed eleven people. Finch took time off from her job at the writing room and flew to Pittsburg, allegedly to collect the remains of a friend who had fallen in the attack.
Where is Anatomy of Lies' alleged grifter Elizabeth Finch now?
According to The Ankler's report, Finch's life went downhill following the unraveling of her lies. She checked herself into a mental health facility in Arizona to recuperate. Her previous circles have shunned her, and she now lives in isolation.
