The latest episode of Agatha All Along featured a fractured story told through Lillia’s broken mind as she has been experiencing her life in a non-linear way. However, a big reveal came about Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal, a character who has always seemed mysterious. Now, through Tarot, Lillia reveals that Vidal is not just the “original green witch” but is Death itself.

This reveal, though a huge one, has not completely taken marvel fans by surprise. Fans did not miss the clues like Vidal talking about collecting dead bodies and the Ouija test saying that Death is with them.

Now that Aubrey Plaza’s Rio Vidal is established to be Death itself in Agatha All Along, let us explore the origin and other details of this character.

What does it mean for Rio Vidal to be the Green Witch and Death in Agatha All Along?

With Rio Vidal being revealed as the Green Witch and Death itself, it should be noted that the character of Death has a long history with Marvel comics. Death, a sentient being, the sister of Eternity had run-ins with different Marvel characters over the years, especially Thanos and Deadpool.

In the comics, Thanos is obsessed with collecting the Infinity Stones because he believes this will impress her. It is therefore interesting that when the character of Lady Death does make an appearance in the live action MCU, she is paired with a rather unusual character, Agatha.

The fact that Agatha and Rio have a history has been hinted generously throughout the show. It is expected that the final episodes of Agatha All Along will be shedding more light on their relationship.

It is also important to note here that Death has not essentially always been portrayed as an evil character in Marvel. She is an inevitability of life but she is not always on the side of bad people.

That also makes her connection with Agatha understandable as Agatha is rarely a villain in the comics that she presents as in the show. She mostly serves as Wanda’s advisor and babysits Reed and Sue Richards' children, Valeria and Franklin.

Also, since Rio Vidal is also the original Green Witch, it means that she was the first to use and possess Earth Magic.

With Rio Vidal’s identity revealed, what is next in Agatha All Along?

Episode 7 of Agatha All Along, titled, Death’s Hand in Mine, ended with Lilia sacrificing herself to save the remaining members of the coven, including Agatha, Jennifer, and Teen/Billy/William from the hands of Salem Seven, who are still chasing them.

However, since she presumably fell to her death, the possibility of seeing the aftermath involving Lilia and Rio/Death remains.

What will be interesting to see is if the show will address Agatha and Rio/Death’s history and their shared life in the past. Since both Agatha and Death are important Marvel comics characters, it also remains to be seen if the show will set them up for appearing in some other characters’ stories.

Agatha All Along can be streamed on Disney+.
