'Tis the time to rewatch Seinfeld Festivus! The Holiday season is upon us, and it's the perfect time to get under the blanket with a hot chocolate in hand and binge-watch your favorite sitcoms.

Many sitcoms have patented some holidays, where they have special holiday episodes each season, and fans seem to enjoy it. The holiday-episode marathon is a tradition among many fans.

To name a few, Friends has Thanksgiving, Brooklyn 99 has Halloween, Modern Family has Halloween, and The Office has Christmas special episodes.

While these sitcoms have episodes dedicated to a specific holiday, the popular sitcom Seinfeld has its own holiday called the Festivus, celebrated on December 23 every year.

Not only is this festival celebrated within the show's Universe, but fans of this sitcom also now celebrate this holiday on December 23 of every year (but careful about asking your boss a leave for 'Festivus').

Here is everything you need to know about Festivus in Seinfeld and where to stream it.

It's time for a Festivus for the rest of us! Festivus is an alternative holiday to Christmas celebrated by the Costanza family within the Seinfeld Universe. It was first introduced in Season 9, Episode 10, and was invented by Frank Constanza.

Now, you may wonder what Festivus is about. It is the annual Airing of Grievances between all family members over food and drinks. As explained by Frank in the episode, it has three parts: to get a metal pole and gather around it to celebrate Festivus ( a sober replacement for the Christmas Tree because tinsel is too festive).

Then comes the 'fun' part: the Airing of Grievances, where family members take turns to share how they were let down or annoyed by one another throughout the year, preferably at the dinner table.

After all grievances are said and listened to, then comes the feats of Strength, where the family members physically fight each other in activities like wrestling, as preferred by Frank. But in more modern settings, you could also play any game and try to outwit one another.

Interestingly, the Festivus holiday in Seinfeld was not just a creative addition to the show, but it was inspired by writer Dan O'Keefe’s real-life family traditions, where they would have something similar to Festivus in their home.

Dan took aspects of his family traditions and consulted the other writers on the show, and thus the iconic Holiday of Festivus was born, which is now celebrated by fans on December 23 of every year.

If celebrating the Festivus is too much of a task for you because who would allow a metal rod in the middle of their living room? Then we suggest you celebrate the festival by rewatching the Festivus episode.

All 9 seasons of the show are available to stream on Netflix, including the Festivus episode, the tenth episode in Season 9, titled 'The Strike'.

The complete series was also just released on Blu-Ray (and 4K!), and fans can get it on DVD. Happy Festivus!
