Dune: Prophecy Season 1 ends after revealing hidden truths about the Bene Gesserit, how Valya Harkonned took charge of the Sisterhood, and why Desmond Hart is important. The series has impressively explored the events before the Dune films, featuring many key and supporting characters.
At the heart of the HBO series is the Bene Gesserit Sisterhood, known for its exceptional abilities and notable influence over political and religious systems. Among its members is the training acolyte Sister Jen (Faoileann Cunningham), who often highlights her fierce and unpredictable nature.
As seen in Dune: Prophecy, Sister Jen is an incredibly intelligent student at the Sisterhood School and is being mentored by the titular characters: Mother Superior Valya Harkonnen and Reverend Mother Tula Harkonnen.
Jen has a sharp intuition, making her a standout member gaming other acolytes. However, despite her abilities, she is a complex character who struggles with internal insecurities, especially when it comes to her relationship with Lila, whose resurrection under Tula Harkonnen brings Jen to the forefront.
Actress Faoileann Cunningham, who brought Sister Jen to life shed light on the character's disturbing journey and described her as a layered character. Continue reading to explore Cunningham's insights.
Faoileann Cunningham talks about Sister Jen in Dune: Prophecy Season 1
One of the characters whose loyalty cannot be easily judged in Dune: Prophecy is Faoileann Cunningham's Sister Jen. Despite being a part of the sisterhood and having notable abilities, Jen's loyalty remains uncertain.
During her interview with CBR, Cunningham shared insights on Sister Jen and her journey. While her primary focus remains Lila's well-being, the unraveling of secrets about the Sisterhood also ignites curiosity to learn more about the Harkonnen sisters. The actress said:
"The layers are gradually coming off and there's another thing and another thing. She's getting deeper and deeper into working to know more about them [Tula and Valya Harkonnen]."
Additionally, Jen has a history of feeling insignificant, as though she lacks value or purpose. While Dune: Prophecy doesn't explore her backstory in detail, Jen's actions and thoughts suggest she has faced situations in her past where she felt like she wasn’t good enough to contribute to the world around her.

Discussing Jen's emotional struggles and journey, Faoileann Cunningham said:
"Jen has kind of been made to feel like she's really useless. That's been something she's been grappling with."
She added:
"And then she's suddenly given this chance to save Lila, whom she thought she had messed up, and just let her die right before her eyes. I suppose it's to do with that feeling of her own concept of self."
As seen in the first part of Episode 4, Lila is believed to have died. However, Tula Harkonnen used the forbidden technology and brought Lila back to life. Her resurrection plays a vital role in Jen's journey as she starts rebuilding her self-esteem and sense of purpose by helping Lila.
