Netflix's Squid Game, the highly acclaimed Korean series, is back with Season 2 and is taking the world by storm again after a wait of three years.
However twisted the consequences and rules of the games featured on the show are, it is nevertheless fascinating to see such simple and classic children's games given a bloody twist.
While Season 1 featured some memorable games like Red Light, Green Light, Dalgona, and Marbles, which gained international popularity after Season 1, the show is back with a set of new and exciting games.
Ddakji is a game that started it all and is featured in Squid Games Season 1 when the salesman uses it to recruit players for the games at the subway station. It is a traditional Korean game played by folding thick paper in various shapes.

What is ddakji in Squid Game? How to play the traditional South Korean Game?
Ddakji is the first children's game we see in Squid Game Season 1. It is a traditional South Korean game used by Gong Yoo's salesman to identify and recruit players for the games.
It is a very popular game played in both South and North Korea, originating in the Joseon period (1392–1897), and is played among school children. Ddakji primarily means a Korean toy, made by folding thick paper in various shapes like rectangles, squares, and circles. Multiple games can then be played with it.
Its flipping variant, neomgyeomeokgi, gained international popularity after being featured in Squid Games Season 1. Two players go against one another, and one player has to flip his opponent's ddakji with his. Players take turns flipping each other ddakjis, and the one with the maximum number of flips wins the game.
In Season 1, the Salesman offers Gi-Hun to play ddakji with him, offering 100,000 won for each round that he wins. But if he loses, he would be slapped by the Salesman, and Gi-Hun ends up with a red face till the end of the round.
While The Salesman had many other classic games in Season 2, ddakji makes an appearance in the actual games themselves. It is the second game in the six-legged penthalon.
What other games does the recruiter offer to play in Squid Game Season 2?
While the recruiter offered to play only ddakji in Season 1, after which players were selected for the actual game, there were many new games that he offered to play in Season 2 Episode 1.
One of them is Bread and Lottery, which is also the title of Episode 1. He buys 100 lottery tickets and 100 pieces of bread and offers the players to choose among them.
Even when bread is an assured choice, and the lottery ticket involves risk, the majority of the people choose the ticket, ending up with nothing upon scratching it.
Another game the recruiter plays is Jokenpô, or Rock, Paper Scissors, but how can anything be simple in Squid Game? They play a reimagined version of the game with Minus One, where they play two hands and remove one pick at each round. Mr. Kim loses against Woo-Seok and is shot dead by the recruiter.
The last game played between the recruiter and Gi-Hun is Russian Roullete, where a gun is loaded with one bullet, and they take a chance to shoot each other turn by turn, letting fate decide. In a shocking twist, the recruiter shoots himself dead, and Gi-Hun gains entry into the games.
