With The Boys Season 5 confirmed to be the final season and currently in production, fans are worried about who might not make it out alive. One of the biggest questions circulating online about The Boys Season 5 is whether Hughie Campbell, played by Jack Quaid, lives or is destined for a tragic end. While there’s no confirmed answer yet, Jack Quaid's recent statement in an interview gives us some hope.
It's important to note that The Boys has never been afraid to kill off major characters. From shocking deaths in the early seasons to brutal endings in later episodes, no one is truly safe. That’s part of what makes the show so addictive. Still, Hughie has been a central part of the story since the beginning, making it harder to kill him off in The Boys Season 5 without shaking the show to its core.
Why might Hughie not die in The Boys Season 5?
Jack Quaid recently spoke about his new movie, Neighborhood Watch, and how playing Hughie changed his life in an interview with Screen Rant. He reflected on his journey with the character, saying,
“What I can say about Hughie is, first of all, it's just going to be crazy that it's the last year of this show. It's just changed my life in so many ways, and I am very grateful. I'm grateful for all of it. I'm so grateful to Eric Kripke for just changing everything for the better. I wouldn't have been able to do this movie with Jeffrey [Dean Morgan] - wouldn't have been able to do anything - if it wasn't for The Boys. God, it's gonna be a very bittersweet ending. I'm so grateful all these people are in my life now, and hopefully will be for a very long time.''

Fans can be hopeful about Hughie’s fate in The Boys Season 5 based on what Jack said about his character. He said,
''But with Hughie, it has been really satisfying to play a character for five seasons and see a full arc. I've just never done that before. The only show I've done before this lasted a season, not to mention a few pilots that never got picked up. I've never played a character for this long before, so that's so rewarding. But this season, I've really tried to make sure you can track Hughie's growth.’’

He elaborated,
''In the first season, he's like a baby. In the second season, he's like a kid learning about everything. In the third season, he's a teenager who's kind of rebelling. In the fourth season, he's really maturing and growing, because a huge thing happens to him. And then I think this is the season where he's a full-blown man. It's really interesting to play the character from a place of confidence, and I don't think that has really happened before, so that's been really interesting to do. I think fans will get a kick out of it.”
This shows just how much Jack cares about Hughie’s journey. It also suggests that the writers gave Hughie a complete arc, something that doesn’t always end in death. A full arc could mean survival, or it could mean a powerful send-off. Either way, it sounds like viewers will see Hughie at his best in The Boys Season 5.
Another reason fans think Hughie might live by the end of The Boys Season 5 is because of his role in keeping the team grounded. His humanity balances out the darkness in characters like Butcher and Homelander. Losing him could unbalance the tone, especially in the final season.
On the other hand, the stakes are higher than ever in The Boys Season 5. With the show ending, the writers might not hold back. Hughie’s death could be the emotional punch that brings everything full circle. It would be painful, but it would make an impact.
In the end, Hughie’s fate in The Boys Season 5 remains uncertain. But with Jack Quaid’s passion for the role and the care that’s gone into Hughie’s growth, there’s a good chance he’ll either survive or go out in a meaningful way.
The Boys Season 5 is expected to release on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
