Sheridan's beloved series mainly deals with the lives and adventures of the Dutton family, who own the biggest ranch in Montana, the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch. Throughout the seasons in the series, viewers explore the inner lives of the Dutton family members. Viewers have encountered that despite family politics revolving around its members, they choose to fight together over their land from the corporate vultures.

Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 made its release after almost two years of hiatus on November 10, 2024. With just 6 episodes, the fans quickly saw a massive shift in its storyline, especially by killing the central protagonist of its story. With Yellowstone season 5 episode 13 being just one episode from the finale, viewers can expect a massive showdown between the characters and long movements in the storyline.

Rip is back in action, and by watching episode 12, it could be comprehended that he desperately wants to put the ranch back together again. He gave the order to sell all the horses, prioritizing keeping the ranch over everything else. After John Dutton's tragic death, Rip is completely dedicated to finding the murderer while also keeping the Dutton legacy alive.

Rip clearly knows that if the ranch is sold, it will consume the jobs of a lot of people. In Yellowstone season 5 episode 13, viewers will probably see Rip getting all the details from Beth and Kayce and won't think twice again about attacking Jamie. We may also see Rip taking his fury out on Jamie, not even sparing his son. Colby's death in episode 12 seemed very unnecessary, which will only lead Teeter to leave Yellowstone completely to work at 6666 in Texas.

This will also establish a connection to Yellowstone's new spin-off series titled 6666. Viewers can expect Teeter to play one of the leading roles in the new spin-off. Beth finally realizes the importance of having a family and a quiet life, away from all the dirty politics. Hence, it is expected that she will have one final showdown with Jamie, who is seen getting more impulsive and reckless in his actions.

Kayce stands out as one of the smartest characters in the season, who, despite knowing John Dutton's killer, is following his trials to trace who had ordered the executions. However, he is unlikely to get personally involved in the case, leaving all of the dirty work to Rip and Beth. It can very much be comprehended that most scenes of Yellowstone season 5 episode 13 will take place at John's funeral, where multiple conspiracies will overlap.

The unexpected murder of Colby Mayfield felt very unnecessary, as he showed traits of a potential character who could have contributed to the future spin-offs of the series. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Christina A. Voros, one of the primary directors of season 5, part 2, commented that Colby's death was an authentic depiction. She said,

"For anyone who really understands the lifestyle of cowboys and working with animals and the risks of the job — and Rip says it about himself — it’s a dangerous job, and this kind of thing happens and it happens in a split-second."

She continued,

"This death comes as a shock because it’s so simple, and it’s so grounded in the world in which all these characters work that it’s profoundly tragic … and the timing of it is just gut-wrenching."

Christina commented that the story for Yellowstone season 5 episode 13, will set all the events for the finale. She said,

"I think [every Yellowstone character] is trying to take steps to feel proactive and trying to tread water to stay afloat. But there are hints of the approaches that need to be taken to find justice, to save the family legacy and to protect the land.

She further adds the necessity to sum up all the events into just two episodes, considering a lot of things are happening at once. Christina said,

"All those things are happening at once, but I think we haven't yet gotten to glimpse what the path is as a whole. You see everyone reaching to try to do what they can to make sense of things, but I think you will feel in the end of the season those things capitulating and coming together to reveal the path forward."

Luke Grimes, who plays the role of Kayce in the series, in a conversation with TV Line, commented on his reaction after reading the last episode of the series. He said it to be beautiful, profound, and heartbreaking. Grime further added that Sheridan in the finale makes sure that the viewers of Yellowstone won't feel like they have wasted their time for the past six years.
