Which major character dies in the Outer Banks Season 4 finale?
After almost a month of waiting, Season 4 Part 2 arrived with a tragic death on the show. The gang lost one of the Pogues, JJ in Morocco.
Show creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate, and Shannon Burke wanted the finale to be personal for the gang. Thus, they wanted to have a death at the end, giving the gang a personal vendetta for Season 5.
While the fans want to believe that the gang is immortal, we witness the tragic death of JJ, who is killed by his father, Chandler Groff, after holding Kiara at gunpoint.
JJ's character comes full circle with him betting the last of El Dorado Gold to get the Blue Crown for the gang. But this victory is short-lived as Chandler holds Kiara at gunpoint and demands it. While JJ hands him the crown, he still fatally stabs his son and flees the scene, leaving a dying JJ in Kiara's arms.
What to expect from Outer Banks Season 5?
While the gang buries JJ in Morocco, they learn that Chandler has fled to Portugal. Season 4 ends with the Pogues, especially Kiara, declaring 'revenge' against him. According to the showrunners in an interview with Tudum for Outer Banks Season 5-
''...it’s all about avenging JJ, and trying to get some solace or peace, and to move on from the grief they all feel."
The gang will be out for their final adventure, but losing is not an option. They will avenge their friend's death, making this last adventure feel personal and just in time for the show's final season.
''They feel a duty to avenge JJ. If they don’t go after Groff, they’ll feel like they’ve let the spirit of JJ or their friendship down... I think they all feel it, like they have to do something. It’s almost to just ameliorate the grief they’re feeling."
While JJ's death is tragic, the creators' decision to give the group a personal vendetta for Season 5 makes sense. This will honor the friendship we have seen them maintain since Season 1.
This will especially be cathartic for Kiara, who lost the love of her life but also witnessed the fateful moment. She will be "the lead dog on the hunt for Groff."
Elsewhere, parenthood is on the cards for Sarah and John B. as the couple finds out they are expecting a baby. Season 5 could also possibly explore this new side of the relationship with Uncle Rafe, who has redeemed himself this season.
