Apple TV+’s sci-fi show, Silo, brings an end to its second season on January 17, 2025 with a twisted finale. As fans are still processing what happened at the end of Silo Season 2, another incident that stood out during the second season was Judge Meadows' death and how it happened.
While death is not exactly an unfamiliar theme for Silo, Judge Meadow’s death was rather shocking, especially because of Bernard’s involvement in it. While the death made sense in terms of the political situation in the silo, it nevertheless was a point of shock in this season, even more so when Bernard gave a virtual reality headset to Judge Meadows as she was breathing her last.
It was in Silo Season 2 Episode 4, titled The Harmonium, that Judge Meadows breathes her last. Let us now explore her death in detail along with the gift that Bernard gave her before she passed away and the reason behind it.
Bernard had gifted Judge Meadows a VR Headset before she died in Silo Season 2
While Bernard and Judge Meadows had worked closely together 25 years before and respected each other immensely, it was Bernard’s obsession with his responsibilities of running the silo that prevented Judge Meadows from saying yes to becoming his shadow.
She reveals this later and it becomes evident that if Bernard was not so invested in the Pact and the Order, he and Judge Meadows would have built a life together. Instead, Bernard stayed true to his only passion in life, which is running the silo in the way he deems the fitted, and that led him to kill Judge Meadows as he believed that would be beneficial for all.
While she is dying, Bernard puts on a virtual reality headset on Judge Meadows’ head. This headset allows Meadows to witness the Monteverde Cloud Forest in Costa Rica as it was in 2018. Since Meadows wanted to go out of the silo and experience the outside world as it was, this was Bernard’s parting gift to her, since her desire of getting out of the silo made him take the decision to kill her.
With the help of the virtual reality headset, Judge Meadows sees creatures like red-eyed tree frogs and capuchin monkeys, animals she had never seen before. Given how well-versed Bernard was about the contents of the VR headset, he helped Judge Meadows to turn in the optimal direction so that she could have the best view of things shown through it.

Bernard poisoned Judge Meadows in Silo Season 2
Since Judge Meadows grew keen on leaving the silo to go outside and see the world that was there, it became a problem for Bernard who thought that this would prompt more people to want to go outside the silo, which might end up harming others.
Since Juliette left and disappeared behind the hills, people had already been thinking about leaving, and with Judge Meadows being resolute on her desire to get out, Bernard considered it was best to kill her.
Bernard invited Judge Meadows to dinner where he said they would discuss matters regarding the latter leaving the silo including trying on the suit that she has to wear when she goes out. Bernard lies about the suit and tells her that he has it ready at his place.
However, Bernard does no such thing as offering Judge Meadows the suit she would require to try on and instead mixes poison in her mushroom that he later serves her. As soon as she has consumed it, he tells her that he could have poisoned the wine also but did not do so as he was not certain whether she would drink it or not.
This leads to Meadows pushing her plate away but the damage had been done at that point as she already had poison pumping through her veins. Soon the news of her death becomes public knowledge but only a few get to know how exactly it happened.
Silo can be streamed on Apple TV+.
