TMZ reported on December 2, 2024, that Barrett was under an investigation conducted by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after a woman reached out to them.
The woman in question claimed that she and Barrett had been friends for a few months and the two went out for drinks one night. They eventually went to Barrett’s home for more drinks.
However, it is from here that things took an unfortunate turn as the woman alleged that when she woke up at Barrett’s house, she found that Barrett was touching her and then allegedly he had non-consensual s*x with her.
The woman mentioned that initially, Barrett did not give off any creepy vibes and therefore she trusted him enough to have drinks with him at his place. The case has now been taken by the LA County Sheriff's Department's Special Victims Bureau.
The woman has undergone a s*xual assault kit. However, no statement has yet been made from Barrett’s side and no arrests have been made either.

Actor Malcolm Barrett is quite well known for his role as Rufus Carlin in Eric Kripke’s Timeless, a sci-fi show. He also collaborated with Kripke in Amazon’s The Boys where he plays the character of Seth Reed, a PR writer at Vought International working with Evan Lambert.
In an interview with The Official Black Magazine in June 2023, Barrett talked about what drives him as a performer, saying,
“There are a couple of things that drive me. When it comes to stories, I want to tell stories that haven’t been told before. A lot of that stems from growing up. I didn’t see much representation on television that included people who looked like me or came from the same communities or neighborhoods as me.”
He also mentioned that the characters he portrays on screen always appear quirky or idiosyncratic as that is what he is as a person. In the same interview, Barrett was asked about his set of principles that he follows, to which he replied,
A principle I live by is making room for the voices of the underrepresented. Room needs to be made so that other people’s voices and stories are heard, especially for people and communities that are much more susceptible to being taken advantage of.
The investigation surrounding the case is ongoing. Barrett is yet to comment on the allegations.
