Wednesday Season 1 is one of 2022's biggest hits on Netflix. The show revolves around Wednesday Addams who is enrolled in Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts. She is already an iconic character in American pop culture and the Netflix series became among the streaming platform's most-watched series.
In January 2023, the series was renewed by Netflix for a second season and it is expected to release sometime in 2025. Despite the lack of a release date, people know about both new and returning cast members. Also, lead actress Jenna Ortega and creator Tim Burton have provided clues about the plot of season 2. This gave fans a few basic ideas about season 2:
Everything that will make Wednesday Season 2 stand apart
1) Jenna Ortega hinted that Wednesday Season 2 will have a "cinematic" feel
In an interview with E! News, Jenna Ortega confirmed that viewers will feel that every episode of season 2 is a movie. She said that the scripts for the second season of the Netflix series felt more like that of a movie than a TV episode. Fans are speculating that each segment of season 2 will probably have a unique tone and come with a complete story arc.
By comparing the scripts of every episode to a movie, Ortega is probably implying that the upcoming season might be more action-packed and dramatic.
2) It will have a new mystery
Wednesday Addams exposed Marilyn Thornhill's scheme for revenge in the first season, After doing so, our protagonist successfully stopped the reincarnated Joseph Crackstone and Thornhill. However, in the closing moments of the Netflix series, it was revealed that Wednesday has a stalker who will probably play a major role in season 2.
3) There will be less romantic plots
Wednesday Addams found herself in an unexpected love triangle between Xavier and Tyler in the first season of the Netflix show. Fans felt that a love triangle was out of character for someone opposed to caring about others. Therefore, it will make sense for season 2 to focus on the protagonist. However, that does not mean that there should not be any romantic plot at all.
Including romantic storylines might serve as an exciting and powerful change for the character. However, the showrunners should incorporate them in a manner that makes sense for the main character. She has started to care about her friends quite recently. Therefore, developing romantic feelings may take time. Season 2 might be a stepping stone for this development if done right.
4) Wednesday Season 2 might be darker
Ortega had teased a darker tone for season 2 of this popular Netflix series. While season 1 may have felt pretty dark already, season 2 will probably have even more upsetting moments that may impact the characters significantly. season 2's increased darkness might be good for the Netflix series.
With a darker tone, season 2's edginess may overshadow its teenage qualities. Also, a darker tone may mean that season 2 is taken more seriously in comparison to the first season.
5) There might be more horror elements
The second season of the Netflix show might also be scarier than the first season. The first season had numerous spooky moments, but they were balanced out by the moments of levity. It might probably be scarier by introducing new villains. Season 1 had Hyde, who was a danger to Nevermore students, and his look was scary too.
Season 2 may push the envelope in horror, and introduce a new scary monster or a disturbing human.
While Wednesday Season 2 doesn't have a release date for now. But it is known that the filming for the series has wrapped. Back in 2022, season 1 wrapped its filming on March 30, it was available to stream from November 23.
