After years of mesmerizing the audience as Jamie Fraser in the Outlander series, Sam Heughan recently opened up about the last days of filming of the historical fiction series. Outlander Season 8 wrapped up in late September 2024, but the Starz series has yet to get a release date.
Speaking with Kelly Clarkson in 'The Kelly Clarkson Show,' Sam Heughan revealed cast and production team of Outlander celebrated with wrap-up parties. When Clarkson asked him about his experience of filming the last few episodes. He mentioned,
"It's been a long part of my life. So, yeah I mean sort of bittersweet, right? We had wrap-up parties and everything."
Sam also said that the last day of filming wasn't just a job wrapped up. He admitted that he got emotional bidding goodbye to the decade-long project.
'I had a little cry'
Sam Heughan had different 'big plans' to celebrate the end of filming the Outlander series and that was not a wrap-up party but a nature retreat.
How did Sam Heughan celebrate the ending of Outlander filming?
During the Kelly Clarkson Show, he revealed that he celebrated the ending of Outlander filming in a 'big way'. Ditching the party plans, he went to Nepal. The Scottish star stated,
"I'd always wanted to go see Everest, so I went out there with a friend of mine, Jake Norton, who's this mountaineer."
Speaking about his adventures in Nepal with his friend, he revealed that they were among the first ones to trek to certain parts of the Himalayas. He also revealed that they trekked through the Hunku Khola Valley.
Sam Heughan, the Outlander star seemed mesmerized by the beauty of Nepal, he continued,
"There's so much to Nepal, so many peaks that have never been climbed, that don't even have names."
Speaking more about his adventure in Nepal he highlighted how they went to a small village and continued their journey through a bamboo forest. After this, they trekked through the alpine to reach Amphu Laptsa pass. Sam Hueghan noted his experience as,
"It was pretty crazy, but I had a lot of fun."
What to expect from Outlander Season 8?
The teaser for Outlander Season 8 is out and gives us a glimpse of what to expect in the upcoming finale season. In the teaser, James Fraser is seen declaring his love for Claire stating their commitment to each other in an uncertain future. The teaser sounded (in Jamie's voice)
"And the day shall come that we do part If my last words are not 'I love you', it's because I didn't have enough time"
This season might be based on Diana Gabaldon's eighth book 'Written in My Own Heart's Blood'. Viewers might see James and Claire stuck in the American Revolutionary War. Meanwhile, Roger (Richard Rankin), Brianna (Sophie Skelton), and their son would also be seen facing the challenges of the 20th century. Apart from this the series also might explore James and Claire's firstborn Faith's story on whether she was a stillborn or not.
Starz has also confirmed the spin-off of the Outlander universe with Outlander: Blood of My Blood. The spin-off would be a prequel to the Outlander series and will delve into the life of Claire's and Jamie's parents. Claire's parents Julia Moriston (Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine) and Jamie's Ellen McKenzie (Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy).
