RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars winner Jinkx Monsoon is known for her bold personality and humour on the show. On January 29, 2025, Jinx arrived at the Sketchy Queens season 2 premiere carpet where she addressed the military ban imposed which states that transgenders cannot serve in the army.
Jinkx stated that this wasn't the first time the trans community was outlawed for being vocal about their identity. She continued mentioning that "TV would suck" without trans artists who are part of the drag community as well. Jinkx said:
“This isn’t the first time they’ve tried to make it illegal to be us, and we’re still here.
They continued:
This is the farthest we’ve come, and if they think that people will willingly go back into the shadows…I mean TV would suck without us. No one’s going to want to get rid of us for TV’s sake alone.”
The American drag performer Jinkx won RuPaul's Drag Race as well as RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars and was titled the Queen of All Queens. She has also appeared in Spring Awakening, RENT, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Hairspray the Musical. The show's format is described as follows:
"Exposes the drama that occurs behind-the-scenes of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars. Includes behind-the-scenes conversations and bonus footage, as the queens discuss the judges' decisions."
Jinkx Monsoon bats for the trans community
During her November 2024 interview with People Magazine, Jinkx Monsoon shared that for Sketchy Queens season 2, political and social satire was incorporated into the show. She said:
"We have a lot of political satire, we have a lot of social satire, and we also have a lot of really weird sketches that just don't make a whole lot of sense, but are going to be really funny."
Additionally, in her January 2025 conversation with People Magazine, Jinkx addressed the criticism drag artists receive. She stated that the queer and trans community has "always been here" in America and "all around the world." According to Jinkx, her purpose was to be more "mindful" and vocal about the measures taken against the drag community. She continued:
"We, as queer people, we have always been here. Trans people have always been here, and not just here [in America], all around the world. We we've always existed. And when we do the work ourselves to be more mindful, more cognizant, more perceptive people with open minds and open hearts, that shows in our work."
The RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars emphasized that drag was a form of art and that each individual has a right to express their identity. She concluded:
"Like, how dare you even imply that you could take this away from us, now that we know what it feels like to be in the spotlight? Because there is no way we're going back to the shadows."
