The Family Business cast members, Javicia Leslie (Paris Duncan) and Arrington Foster (Rio Duncan), appear on the Black American Television (BET) Network that caters mainly to the African American audience. The host of the show asked them about their on and off-camera chemistry, and Javicia replied to it in the simplest manner possible, quoting that it is because they both are from PG County.

"I tell you what.. Where are you from Arrington? ... What part of Maryland are you from? Exactly, we are both from PG County", proved Javicia.

The Family Business is based on Carl Weber’s bestselling novel series of the same name and follows Duncan's family, wealthy and influential people in New York who run a car dealership by day and a ruthless criminal empire by night. The struggle revolves around the family patriarch who is trying to hand over the family business to his coming generation while also dealing with his rivals.

The interview continued to explore Javicia's character in the series, which is portrayed as gray. As the host says, "Some would love Paris while some would choke her," which Javicia acknowledges.

"I have heard that she is a love-and-hate kind of character. However, I think you hate her because she is doing what you probably have been thinking of doing but can't because you are too scared to do it. That's what Paris is. And I know this because I am not Paris. I am fearful, as far as going after a man that I want."

Lavicia sees her role as Paris important because it reflects something that is not very common among the Black community. Paris grew up with money, she has the privilege to do whatever she wants, and we see a successful Black woman in the show.

"It's not like we don't have it. We have it, we (Javicia and Arrington) come from an area of very successful black people. PG County was the richest Black county in the United States but it was never represented. So I love that about the show. It represents Black excellence"

Meanwhile, Arrington spoke about his character and defined it as "flashy and sassy," which adds some elements of light humor to the already dramatic family. Rio is seen in different hair colors every time in the show. According to the actor, this portrays a major part of his character who lives in the moment.

"I wouldn't say he is the black sheep in the family, but definitely someone who just does his own thing. Rio's every look is a moment, it's a vibe."

Recalling the scene where Rio saves Paris by shooting a guy like James Bond out of nowhere, Javicia jokes about how when they read the script of an episode, they are always unsure if they will make up to the next episode. Arrington talks more about his character giving voices to some important issues being part of the black powerful family in The Family Business.

The spinoff series, The Family Business: New Orleans, which premiered in January 2025 on BET+, follows a new set of characters connected to the Duncan family, focusing on the underground casino business in New Orleans and its deadly rivalries.

The season, which consisted of eight episodes, concluded on March 6, 2025, with a confirmation for a second season.
