The relationship between Greg and Tanya was one of the highlights of The White Lotus Season 1 and 2. Jon Gries, who portrays Greg, shared that he and Jennifer Coolidge, who portrayed Tanya, were one of the more interesting couples on screen because of their unique and fascinating chemistry.
While speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Jon Gries shared,
"We clearly have chemistry. Most people say that to me and corroborate that because I always knew we had chemistry. For both of us, it's exciting and we both like to play that tension, to play those changes because that's the beauty of life."
Greg’s restrained character contradicts the more dramatic Tanya, which makes for remarkable on-screen dynamics. He said,
"Tanya is incredibly endearing and adorable, and yet at the same time, she's a chaotic mess. I mean, Greg is unkind, there's no question, but I think he's at his wit's end a little bit, at least that's what I think the intention was: for it to show that he actually could be at his wit's end, or is he just done? I think he really does love her, personally."

While in Season 1 they share a more earnest relationship, in Season 2 their marriage seems to have turned for the worse.
Gries believes that their difference in personalities starts to show in Season 2 as the couple’s marriage appears fractured. He said,
"I think that Greg may not be amorously in love with her but I think there's something about her that he does love. Obviously, he's stayed with her. Whether or not it's about money, I don't know. It's hard to say."
He continued,
"If somebody wants to ask me is Greg uncomfortable living off of his wife a bit, like she's taken care of everything, I think Greg has become accustomed to being taken care of in this situation. At the same time, I don't think he's uncomfortable living that lifestyle, and I think that he would live that lifestyle if he had money of his own."
What happened to Tanya and Greg in The White Lotus?
The audience first meets heiress Tanya McQuoid in Season 1 of The White Lotus in Maui. Tanya, who was grieving her mother’s death, was at the resort to find solace and spread her mother’s ashes in the sea. She meets Greg Hunt, another guest at the luxury resort. They immediately form a relationship.
In Season 2, the couple are now married and vacationing in Sicily while staying at the White Lotus resort. Their relationship is much strained at this point as Greg seems to be keeping secrets from her. In the middle of their holiday, he suddenly informs her that he is leaving for some important work.
A paranoid Tanya starts to unravel. She befriends a wealthy Englishman called Quentin (played by Tom Hollander). But later Tanya gets suspicious that Greg has some connection with Quentin, who may be trying to kill her so her husband can inherit her wealth. While trying to escape, she ends up dead accidentally.
In Season 3 of The White Lotus, Greg is back. But he goes by Gary now. He appears in the luxury resort in Thailand along with his model girlfriend Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon). It is understood that Greg/Gary is a wealthy man now, thanks to Tanya’s inheritance.
Chloe, in a conversation with Chelsea (played by Aimee Lou Wood), mentions Tanya when she says that his ex-wife was depressed and walked into the ocean and didn’t come back. Meanwhile, Belinda (played by Natasha Rothwell), who had gotten close to Tanya in Season 1, gets suspicious of Greg/Gary. Whether she uncovers the truth about him is to be seen.
