Disney+’s Daredevil: Born Again marks the return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. The actor previously played the superhero slash blind lawyer in Netflix’s Daredevil for three years and became a fan favorite.

When the Netflix series was abruptly canceled in 2018, Cox was disappointed, just like the show’s fans. However, despite the sadness, the actor was hopeful that he might get to play Matt Murdock again, as he said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly in December 2018:

“I don’t know how this would happen, but maybe one day we could pick up the baton and do it again.”

Cox manifested playing the superhero again, as he was brought into the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2021 with a cameo in Spider-Man: No Way Home and is now making his full-fledged entry into the franchise with Daredevil: Born Again.

Daredevil premiered on Netflix in 2015 and made Charlie Cox a household name. His performance as a blind lawyer with heightened abilities was loved by the critics and the audience that made the show become an instant hit.

However, ahead of the launch of Disney+, Marvel Entertainment decided to cut ties with Netflix in 2018 and cancel all its shows on the streaming platform, including Daredevil. The cancellation came as a shock to the show’s cast as well as fans as it consistently garnered good ratings.

Cox was also taken aback by the decision and expressed his shock in an interview with Entertainment Weekly:

“A lot of us really expected to keep going, and I certainly did. The truth is, I felt like we had a lot of stories to tell, and although I understand [the cancellation], I’m very saddened by that. It’s just how business works.”

Talking about how the character was close to his heart, Cox added:

“These characters mean a lot to people. It’s weird to think there’s a chance I won’t be playing Matt Murdock ever again. That’s a bizarre feeling, because that character has been such a huge part of my life for the last four and a half years.”

However, when the interviewer asked him if he was willing to play Matt Murdock again, Cox replied, ‘Oh my God, yeah,’ adding that he does not know how, but he was hopeful of continuing Matt's story in the future.

Over three years later, his manifestation and fans’ demand actually worked as Disney+ began the development of Daredevil: Born Again in January 2022. Cox was then announced to reprise his role, along with Vincent D'Onofrio as Wilson Fisk / Kingpin.

The announcement left everyone excited and after three years of work, Daredevil: Born Again is set to premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025. Over time, other main cast members from the original series were also confirmed to return in the revival.

These include Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle / Punisher, Ayelet Zurer as Vanessa Marianna-Fisk, Elden Henson as Foggy, Wilson Bethel as Dex Poindexter / Bullseye, and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page.

The show follows Matt Murdock, who has left his vigilante life behind to work as a full-time lawyer. However, an encounter with Wilson Fisk starts a chain of events that brings both of them face-to-face with their past.

Daredevil: Born Again will premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, and will release new episodes weekly.
