Watson season 1 episode 2 premiered on CBS on February 16, 2025, and featured the surprising case of a man who forgets his identity. The medical drama, inspired by the Sherlock Holmes novel series, follows Dr. John Watson who treats people dealing with some mysterious ailments.
In the new episode, titled Redcoat, Watson comes across a man named Andrew Tanner, who has been shot. After recovering from his injury, Andrew starts to behave weirdly as he does not remember anything from his past, and acts like a Revolutionary War hero.
While Watson and his team initially think the patient is suffering from Huntington’s Disease, they eventually realize he actually has a condition named Wilson’s Disease. Here is the complete Watson season 1 episode 2 recap.
Watson Season 1 Episode 2 recap: What happened to Andrew Tanner?
Watson season 1 episode 2 is focussed on Andrew Tanner, an actor who plays a Revolutionary War hero. After someone shoots him at his home, he is treated at a hospital. However, when he wakes up, he starts to think he is Patrick Ferguson, the Scottish sniper he pretends to be in his reenactments.
He does not recognize his family and speaks with a Scottish accent. The doctors think his behavior is caused by the bullet, but Watson suspects there is more to the story. Watson and his team find out that Andrew recently learned he might have Huntington’s Disease, a serious illness that runs in his family.
Watson thinks Andrew faked the shooting so his family could get his life insurance money. When he finally confronts the patient, Andrew admits the truth after collapsing from a brain aneurysm.
On further investigation, Watson discovers Andrew does not have the terminal Huntington’s Disease but a treatable condition called Wilson’s Disease. This gives Andrew hope for the future, and he stops pretending to be Ferguson.
Watson Season 1 Episode 2 recap: How does Watson handle Andrew’s case?
John Watson uses both his medical skills and detective instincts to solve Andrew’s case. He starts by talking to a historian to learn about Patrick Ferguson and uses this information to test Andrew’s story.
Watson notices that Andrew’s story does not add up and begins to suspect he is lying. He also finds evidence that the shooting was staged, like the broken clock and the whiskey bottle. Watson’s careful investigation helps him figure out what really happened.
Watson also shows a lot of care for Andrew. He stays on the hospital roof all night to stop Andrew from trying to jump off. Watson talks to Andrew about his own struggles, like losing his friend Sherlock, to help him see that life is worth living. All this helps in solving the case.
Watson Season 1 Episode 2 recap: Is Dr. Derian hiding something?
Meanwhile, Dr. Ingrid Derian’s behavior in this episode makes it clear she’s hiding something. Watson already caught her lying about her acting skills, and in this episode, she acts even more suspiciously.
When the team needs a neurosurgeon to operate on Andrew, Derian contacts Isaac, one of her former colleagues. However, Isaac accuses her of ruining his career by reporting him for drunk driving years ago. He thinks she did this to win a grant they were both competing for.
Derian does not admit to anything but uses her charm to convince Isaac to do the surgery. After the surgery, Isaac warns Mary that Derian is dangerous and could cause problems for the team.
At the end of the episode, Derian practices lying in front of a mirror, which makes it clear she is not being honest. However, the episode does not reveal what her real intentions are, or if she is working with Moriarty. For now, she seems like a threat to Watson and the rest of the team.
Watson season 1 airs new episodes on CBS on Sundays.
