The eleventh episode of Watson dropped recently on CBS and paves the way for the upcoming season finale. The latest episode of Watson was titled Dark Day Deduction and consisted of an unexpected flashback to the titular character's past life, thus revealing that he was enlisted as an army doctor in Afghanistan briefly. The episode further showcased the complicated relationship between Dean and Watson, with both of their past traumas coming back to haunt their relationship in a significant way.

On the other hand, the latest episode of the CBS show further explored the relationship angle between the titular character and Mary, leaving the door open for their relationship to rekindle some of that old flame. It isn't quite clear whether this would be taken up in the finale episode as well, but it's fair to say that Watson and Mary do have something to cherish. Lastly, the episode also shed a light on Moriarty's schemes and his handling of the Shinwell problem.

Here's everything that we know about the latest episode of the CBS show.

What happened on the lates episode of Watson on CBS?

The most recent episode of Watson began with Robert Bailey Jr.'s Dean Kett ravaged in the wake of his army deployment tour to Afghanistan. Dean is being haunted by the memory of a young Afghan boy by the name of Izar. There's one particular image that comes back to haunt Dean, i.e., of Izar riding up to the army camp and ignoring Dean's order to halt, with Dean then letting him go. When it becomes clear that Dean isn't responding well to the medication suggested by the psychiatrist, his wife Hazel decides that it's time she got Watson to have a look at her husband.

The show then dropped in the information that the titular character had to take up the duties of a field medic in the army and was deployed to Afghanistan alongside Dean. Watson supposedly did this in order to pay for his tuition at the medical school. When the two come together, Dean is almost annoyed by his former colleague's presence and blames him for the loss of his leg, which was blown up during a bombing while Watson was occupied attending to a local Afghan woman by the name of Ramiza. The doctor's interest in Ramiza was sparked by the fact that she possessed the very rare genetic condition known as familial chylomicronemia syndrome.

Dean eventually doesn't respond well to the treatment plan proposed by Dr. Lubbock, and in a bizarre state of mindlessness, ends up attacking the doctor and then rushes out. He is eventually located at the helipad, raving in his delirium, from where John is able to bring him down. The strange medical condition of Dean is soon explained by John, who discovers that he had a predisposition for Guillain-Barré syndrome, which, although latent within him, had been sparked by his rigorous physical training to clear the Army Fitness Test. Dean finally confides in Watson that he was the one who was responsible for the bombing and apologizes for having blamed John all this while.

Moving on, the latest episode of the CBS show also saw Shinwell being approached by one of Moriarty's agents in lieu of his questionable loyalty. Shinwell had previously flouted one of Moriarty's direct orders that involved him getting the intern's DNA for Moriarty. When Moriarty's agent calmly informs Shinwell that the former is rather upset with him for not following the order, Shinwell tries to intimidate her at first by summoning his criminal persona. He tries to scare her away by bringing up her sick child that had come to Shinwell's notice earlier this season, and yet the agent remains unfazed.

Eventually Adam walks in on the two of them, and Shinwell and the agent pretend to be having a secret affair for a while in order to dupe Adam. Once Adam is convinced, the agent is then shown to be on the trail of Adam's girlfriend, Lauren. The agent followed Lauren into a restaurant bathroom, wherein she tactfully stole Lauren's makeup bag. The episode then established that the agent had restored the bag to where it belonged, with Lauren taking out the lipstick and, after applying the same, kissing Adam towards the final moments of the show. Shinwell's ultimate fate didn't end up being good, as he's let go from Moriarty's service.

Other than this, the episode presented a few moments of solace between Watson and Mary. The latter stayed by his side throughout the entire ordeal of treating Dean and was even there when John reunited with Ramiza through a video conference.

Morris Chestnut speaks about the CBS show

Speaking in a recent interview with TVInsider, actor Morris Chestnut, who plays the protagonist on the CBS show, shared his exclusive insights about his character arc:

"I just love being a part of the Sherlock Holmes mythology, having access to the incredible storylines, the incredible, rich characters. Watson’s really trying to hold it together in the midst of all the complications that Moriarty is bringing into his life. For Watson, it is a great opportunity to match wits with the only person that’s really gotten the best of Sherlock, to avenge the death of his best friend. I don’t know if you ever get to do that, but that’s what he wants and drives him."

Chestnut further added:

"It’s fun playing the levels, sometimes Watson knows what he did was something that he can’t take back, and he’s really remorseful for his behavior in following Sherlock. Mary doesn’t want to let him in. The fun is trying to get her to crack, trying to get her to loosen up a little bit when it comes to Watson and what he did with their marriage. There are going to be a few things that are revealed about the relationship later on in the season that will shock the audience.”

Watson airs new episodes exclusively on CBS.
