American Idol Season 23 Episode 4: Lola's audition with her musical family
After witnessing a contestant belonging to the "musical" family, judges, including Carrie Underwood, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie, were also surprised. As Lola performed alongside her mom and aunt, it was time for her solo performance. She sang Rainbow by Kacey Musgraves.
For her performance, Carrie's remarks were:
"You can tell that that is a thing with families, that everybody is genetically designed to sound good together."
American Idol contestant Lola mentioned that the audition would "push" her because she was only familiar with performing with her family before that. But here, she stated that she was "excited" and looking forward to "growing" from the experience.
Another panelist Lionel stated:
"You've got everything you need. There are certain points I would give you. When you’re singing the lead, hold the story out longer. It could have been nerves, but you were getting to the end and just cutting it off. Just hold it. Your voice is there. Tell us a story."
Luke told Lola about having the "tone" and the "pureness" along with the "quality" in her voice. However, he stated that seeing the level of the competition, she would have to use more of her "dynamics."
After the panelists voted, Lola won the Golden Ticket. Hence, she advanced to the show's next phase.
