Getting even a small role on NBC's The Office was a dream-come-true moment for many actors, as the sitcom was one of a kind and had redefined the genre in many ways.
This dream finally came true for actor Jake Lacey, who debuted in the show's final season as a new recruit, Pete. Pete's office romance with Erin added a fresh layer to the comedy, and Lacey was happy to join the ensemble cast, albeit in the final season.
Talking to NBC Insider in a 2024 interview, Lacey reminisced about his time on the show and shared a particular BTS moment about Jenna Fischer (Pam):
“I was sitting in this green room off on the side when Pam, Jenna [Fischer], was doing the last direct address of the show,”
The mockumentary style comedy's direct address to the audience was an iconic part of the show, and Lacey expressed how it was "surreal" for him to be present in Fischer's last direct address.
More on Jake Lacey's time on The Office in our story.
When Jake Lacey reminisced about his time on The Office
While Jake Lacey debuted as Pete in The Office Season 9, his on-screen romance with the receptionist Erin was a sweet reminder of Jim and Pam's earlier days, who eventually became one of the most beloved sitcom couples.
Lacey, who got widespread recognition after appearing in the sitcom, played a sweet new recruit at Dunder Mifflin, with some even calling him a Jim Halpert in the making. Working with the OG The Office cast is a dream for many actors, but Lacey finally got to witness firsthand.
While reflecting on his time on the show with NBC Insider, Lacey discussed his BTS moment with Fischer while she was giving her last direct address as Pam:
''[Seeing Pam's last direct address was] like ''a kid who won a thing off a radio call. I was a huge fan of the show,”
He discussed his emotional feelings of having shared that moment with Fischer's Pam, and said that he was just grateful for having shared that experience with the cast:
“These people have been doing it for a decade. I just [had] this weird mix of being a fan and knowing what this moment means to me as a viewer and also being at work with people, who, this has been their life for the last like 10 years and knowing what it means to them, and that was surreal. It’s still surreal I got to be there, you know? Like, I got to see it. I got to be in the thing."
What roles has Jake Lacey played in his career after The Office?
The Office can be considered Jake Lacey's breakthrough role. After appearing as Pete, his acting career saw a boost, and he appeared in many projects.
Among them, his role as Shane Patton in HBO's The White Lotus Season 1 is the most notable. Lacey's portrayal of a white entitled brat, also a mama's boy, complaining obsessively about trivial things while being on a luxurious honeymoon in Hawaii was brilliant and garnered much appreciation.
He has also had prominent roles in High Fidelity, I'm Dying Up Here, Apples Never Fell, and A Friend Of The Family.
His role in The White Lotus earned him a Primetime Emmy Award nomination in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie category.
