Apple TV+’s Shrinking Season 2 ended only a week ago and has already been renewed for a third season. Season 2 saw the addition of new heavyweight actors including Neil Flynn of Scrubs and The Middle fame.

Neil Flyyn’s role as Lawrence, however, was not exactly a new addition since he was seen in Shrinking Season 1 and this was more like a comeback for the character. His return marked a good point in the storyline and his scenes with Harrison Ford were particularly praised.

Flynn is most popular for his roles in Scrubs and The Middle where he played the characters of the Janitor and Mike Heck, respectively. Let us now explore his career and other projects besides Shrinking.


What projects has Neil Flynn done besides The Middle?

An American comedian and actor, Neil Flynn has starred in numerous shows, and films, and has also worked as a voice-over artist. Before venturing into acting, Flynn’s career began in the Chicago improv circle and eventually, he landed the role of the Janitor in Scrubs, one of his most famous characters to date.

Flynn’s small screen debut, however, was in the year 1987, in an episode of an anthology show titled CBS Summer Playhouse. At the beginning of his career and just after finishing his Graduation from Bradley University, he started as a theater actor and was also nominated for a Joseph Jefferson Award for The Ballad of the Sad Cafe.

A significant time of his professional life was spent in the field of improv and along with David Koechner he established Beer Shark Mice, an improv team. The team remained active till the year 2015.

Besides Scrubs, which remains one of his most talked about roles, Flynn has also starred as smaller characters in various other shows, including Seinfeld, That '70s Show, Smallville, etc.

Apart from Scrubs, another one of the longest-running roles of Flynn includes The Middle, where he played the character of Mike Heck, a father who worked at the Orson Limestone Quarry and had three children.

Flynn has also ventured into the big screen with several films to his credit. He was cast in a minor role in Mean Girls and played Cady Heron’s (Lindsay Lohan) father. He also starred in Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and played the role of an unnamed policeman.

His other films include The Fugitive, The Fence, Baby's Day Out, Home Alone 3, The Right Temptation, It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie, Magnolia, Sex and Death 101, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Superman: Man of Tomorrow, etc.

Besides acting on both small and big screen, Flynn has also worked as a voice artist. He had lent his voice to Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. He has also voiced the characters of the Plumber and Skidd McMarx for PlayStation 2 in the first three Ratchet & Clank games.

What character does Neil Flynn play in Shrinking?

Neil Flynn plays the role of Lawrence in Shrinking. He is one of Paul’s (Harrison Ford) patients. He was first introduced in Shrinking Season 1 and also made an appearance in the second season of the show, much to the delight of the fans.

Besides Neil Flynn, Shrinking Season 2 saw some other popular actors as guest stars, including Josh Hopkins (Cougar Town) and Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl).
