Virgin River is an American romantic drama series inspired by the books of Robyn Carr and filmed in British Columbia, Canada. Its first season premiered on Netflix on December 6, 2019, and it has since been renewed for multiple seasons.

In 2023, the series was renewed for its sixth season, which will comprise ten episodes and is expected to release sometime in 2025.

The show stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel, a nurse practitioner who moves to the small town of Virgin River after the death of her husband, hoping for a fresh start.

Although Virgin River is a fictional town, all the scenic locations depicted in the show are real. In this article, we'll explore each of the filming locations used for the series.

The show is set in a charming small town nestled in deep forests, surrounded by beautiful mountains and tranquil waterfalls. Although the series is set in Northern California, it was filmed in Vancouver and the surrounding areas.

Here are the locations that form the scenic backdrops of the series.


1) Jack’s Bar is a real bar called The Watershed Grill

The exterior shots of Jack's Bar, the town's hangout spot, were filmed at The Watershed Grill in Brackendale, located north of Vancouver near the Squamish River. All interior scenes were filmed at a local studio.


2) Doc Mullins's Practice is actually in New Westminster

Doc Mullins' Family Practice Clinic is a mansion located in New Westminster, BC. While the interior scenes are shot on a set, the exterior shots feature the New Westminster Mansion as Doc's clinic.


3) Mayor Hope’s House is Edgar Residence

The house is set as the house of the mayor in Virgin River located in Burnaby on Deer Lake Drive. The house referred to as the Edgar Residence is a craftsman bungalow dating back to 1912 and is considered to be of heritage due to its association with the businessman Robert McBeth Edgar.


4) Mel’s Cabin in Murdo Frazer Park

The house that acts as Mel's cabin is located in Murdo Frazer Park found in the North of Vancouver and is currently used as the park caretaker's home.

Mel's home in the series has to be the coziest spot of all the locations shown in the show. The house is made up of wood and has a very warm-looking fireplace. The exterior of the house may look a little familiar to the viewers as the same house has been used in other shows like The Psych, The Flash, and more.


5) Fitches Bed and Breakfast

Fitches Bed and Breakfast is located at the Klahanie Campground in Squamish.

Klahanie Campground is a family-owned and operated site serving campers both locally and internationally for more than 55 years. Located quietly off the Sea to Sky Highway, Klahanie Campground is only a 45-minute car commute away from both Vancouver and Whistler.


6) Paige’s Bakeaway Truck

The Bakeaway truck, serving as Paige and Lizzie's workplace after Paige is forced to leave her town, is located in Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park, known for its scenic walking trails.

Though visitors will not find the stationed truck at the scenes, they can visit the locations where the truck remained stationed during the show, at Burnaby Fraser Foreshore Park.

7) Shannon Falls Provincial Park

Scenes with Melinda and Jack were also shot in Squamish close to the river and the show's waterfall scenes were shot in Shannon Falls Provincial Park.

This park is situated right next to Highway 99 and offers visitors the opportunity of hiking, short treks, and picnicking with family. Shannon Falls is also the third tallest fall in British Columbia.


8) Port Coquitlam

Port Coquitlam lies on the north banks of both the Fraser and Pitt Rivers which is half a drive away from Vancouver. The Virgin River crew filmed inside local favorites such as Samz Pub, where Melinda and Jack hang out, and In a Wink Beautique, which serves as a hair salon.

Some other locations used in Virgin River include Grouse Mountain, Capilano Suspension Bridge Park, and House Rock near Whistler, where the show's characters took part in various outdoor activities.


All five seasons of Virgin River are available to stream on Netflix.
