MTV aired The Challenge 40's part one of the finale on January 1, 2025. The first part featured four checkpoints in the episode. One of them was an "overnight checkpoint." Fans witnessed eight finalists: Rachel, Jordan, Tori, Jenny, Michele, Kyland, and Johnny Bananas competing against each other.
For the last checkpoint, the competitors were supposed to count coins and sing at every 30-minute time interval. While some fans shared their views on the segment as the "worst final" ever, show alum Wes Bergmann came to defend the finale and shared a tweet on X.
Part of his tweet read on the platform:
"I don't think y'all should be trashing the singing portion. On Rivals 1 when we switched "sleeping" partners we had to wake up our partner with a memorized poem each time - or suffer a penalty."
Seeing the show alum defending The Challenge 40's finale segment, fans took to social media platform X and shared their views.
One of the fans mentioned:
"Most boring final I've ever seen this. Singing and swimming. Summer camp. Very boring TV."
Another fan wrote:
"There's nothing wrong with the swimming portion of the Final. In the history of the challenge is actually kind of overdue to have a swimming heavyiFinal. The singing is about mental breakdown and to break up the rhythm of them counting."
A netizen reacted to Wes Bergmann's views:
"Frankly I just personally don't see the value of adding in sleep deprivation as a challenge in a final. It's not something you can train for and it isn't entertaining from a viewer standpoint (IMO). Wish they'd get rid of that so we can see people competing at their best."
A person reacted to the "overnight" part of the show:
"The overnight part for me is definitely iconic in the hard ass finals."
Another fan wrote on X:
"They train people all the time for it. Honestly, it's an amazing equalizer. If you can't function when you're tired, you are useless."
An X user commented on the "singing" part of the finale:
"I am LOVING this final! Even the singing. The last few finals have been carnival games and easier mentally. This one feels more old school. I like to see my challengers shaking as they climb out of the water. This is a good one!"
A netizen reacted to the show's finale and shared a personal experience:
"We did something similar in boot camp. It was the only time I saw someone pass out and faceplant and we were just standing there reciting the same thing over and over. People don't get it until they have done something similar."
A fan shared about the overnight challenge:
"I have done many endurance type races. This kind of overnight challenge is the kind that breaks you down. When you are physically and mentally exhausted and then stop moving, the body and mind wants to quit. I love this overnight challenge."
One of The Challenge 40 fans referred to the show's finale episode as:
"It's just super boring TV. This is one of the worst finals of all time."
The Challenge 40: Show alum Wes Bergmann shares his views on the "overnight" part of the finale
MTV aired much-awaited The Challenge 40 finale's first part on January 1, 2025. The episode featured four checkpoints, one of which contained a "singing" portion.
The competitors were supposed to go through the checkpoints and look for the tokens. After searching each checkpoint, they were supposed to swim back and forth to the next checkpoint.
The last checkpoint featured on The Challenge 40 was an "overnight" where participants were supposed to go through coins and count them. While doing that, the competitors were supposed to "sing."
After some show fans criticized the task, especially the "singing" part, show alum Wes Bergmann shared his view on the finale challenge.
"Y'all are trashing it in the context of 'it's not hard' when this final has already been capped at hard enough. The singing is mental warfare." shared Wes.
The Challenge 40 show alum tweeted on X and shared his views on the show's finale and various segments, including the singing part.
MTV will air the The Challenge 40 finale on January 7, 2025.
