Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 streamed the ninth episode, which is also its finale, on April 15, 2025. It ended with the Fisks on top, and surprisingly, both Wilson and Vanessa Fisk are a stronger couple in the closing moments of this season, teasing a more united front in the upcoming second season. This is in contrast to how the couple began in the first few episodes of Born Again Season 1.

On April 16, 2025, Ayelet Zurer, the actress who plays Vanessa in the original Netflix show and Daredevil: Born Again, gave an interview to Collider's Senior Editor Carly Lane in which she addressed the changes to the character. Zurer revealed her reaction to learning the direction of Vanessa's character this season:

"It was really interesting. There were many choices in this. It kept me wondering how to deal with it, because I saw Vanessa in a very particular way through Seasons 1–3 of Daredevil, the Netflix show. I never saw her as a violent person or someone interested in power. But it made a lot of sense, because if he's gone, and she's taking care of business, then she has to be very wise in the way she's dealing with the people involved, because it's the darkest side of humanity, really."

This ties back to the revelation in the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again, where it's revealed that Vanessa is the new Kingpin running Wilson Fisk's criminal empire in New York when he was off to Oklahoma during the events of the 2024 miniseries Echo. In that interview, she further spoke about the evolution of her and Wilson Fisk's marriage in this series and the brutal side of Vanessa.

What did Daredevil: Born Again actress Ayelet Zurer say?

In this Collider interview, Ayelet Zurer touched upon Vanessa and Fisk's journey from the first few episodes of Daredevil: Born Again to the eighth one, where they finally resolve their issues. Wilson and Vanessa come closer when the latter opts to fatally shoot her affair Adam rather than releasing him.

But even before that moment, Zurer spoke about how she and Vincent D'Onofrio's character, despite their differences, speak in a way only the other can understand. The actresses' exact words were:

"They grow closer and closer, also, in physicality. I'm glad you saw that. But also, they can talk in a way that only they understand. It's almost like siblings with a secret language. They have their own secret language, but they really solve everything in the house, just one-on-one. That's where they really open everything and talk. The sessions allow them to bring things that they've never brought in before, particularly for Vanessa — aspects of her that we've never seen before or heard her expressing — and I think that's probably the only way this would have worked in that specific space for them."

Then Carly Lane and Zurer spoke about the moment from the seventh episode of Daredevil: Born Again in which she sent Luca to Wilson's location to kill her husband. But Fisk was aware of an attempt on his life and had Luca shot by Buck Cashman. The eighth episode reveals that Vanessa had informed Wilson about Luca, meaning that she intentionally sent Luca to his death.

The actress was asked if, at that moment, Vanessa considered betraying Wilson. The actress answered:

"It’s funny that you're saying that, because there was a discussion about that, and I always said, “Absolutely not! She’s so loyal. No, no, no, no.” But to be honest, eventually, when I actually acted it out, when I actually performed it, there were some moments where, throughout the show, I'm thinking, “Love and hate, love and hate, love and hate.” But really, she loves him so much. She's so obsessed with this person, and him with her, that there's no other way, obviously. But yeah, that was actually a discussion, and I so resisted it at the beginning. There’s that one shot where I'm making that decision, and I remember we shot it, and… yes, it is there, the back and forth."

Ayelet Zurer also discusses Vanessa's brutal side in Daredevil: Born Again:

While Vanessa might've been responsible for several deaths in the MCU before the events of Daredevil: Born Again episode 1, she took a darker turn in the eighth episode, "Isle of Joy", after personally murdering Adam. This brutal act brought the Fisks closer, and they are stronger until the very end of the series. When asked about how the actress approached the scene of killing Adam, she said:

"It's very ruthless. At first, I resisted that for her, but it is such an interesting take on loyalty and how far you would go to prove love, and by doing so, could create a knot that's unbreakable. When is it unbreakable? In a way, she might trust him, but he may not trust her ever if she doesn't prove her loyalty to that extent in a visual way, not just sending someone to do something. At some point, she jumps into the water in a way without even thinking, but more feeling. She does what she needs to do emotionally. I think it's going to come with a price, eventually."

Then Zurer, who is also set to appear in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, teased a more unified and stronger Fisks:

"Oh, they're strong together, that's for sure. Strong together. But there are other factors coming in, so everybody's going to be affected."

Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 is available to stream on Disney+. Meanwhile, the second season is currently filming in New York.
