Netflix's Twilight of the Gods concluded Season 1 with an epic finale, but the battle between Sigrid and Thor is far from over. The animated series draws characters from Norse mythology, on which it is based.

The plot of the show centers on Sigrid's revenge on Thor because he killed her people and the giants on her wedding day. Throughout Season 1, Sigrid was hell-bent on taking revenge.

Her revenge, however, is not accomplished in Season 1 because Loki kills her brutally, and the battle will continue in Season 2. In addition, Seid-Kona shows Odin how all the Gods would die in the future, setting the tone for a grim future.

More on Twilight of The Gods Season 1 finale in our story.

Who died in Sigrid and Thor's battle in the Twilight of The Gods finale?

While the core conflict of the show was the battle between Sigrid and Thor, there were bound to be other casualties. The most heartbreaking death in the finale was of Hervor, the mother who was grieving her son's death throughout the show and wanted to rejoin him in Valhalla (heaven in Norse mythology). That did not happen as she was taken into Hel.

Goddess Hel, who rules Hel, explains to Hervor that Valkyrie did not accept the latter and she was doomed to be in Hel because she had used cursed weapons in the battle. Hel consoles Hervor by saying that Valhalla would not have comforted her, but she was not comforted.

Another important death in the Twilight of the Gods finale was of Thor's brother, Baldr. While he was a part of Thor's army, he redeemed himself somehow by telling Thor that Sigrid and Leif were dead in order to save them from the God's wrath. However, it was Sigrid who killed him accidentally in the battlefield.

When she launched her God-killing spear aimed at Thor during the battle, Baldr, who was protecing the God of Thunder, came in the way, and the spear ripped his heart.

Loki proved that he is the 'God of mischief' in the Twilight of The Gods finale

Loki proved why he is called the God of Mischief, as he killed Sigrid in the Twilight of The Gods finale. Shocking, right? Because he was the one who saved Sigrid and brought her to Hel, and his motives to kill Thor were as strong as hers, which makes his action surprising.

In the finale, he brutally stabs Sigrid, and she bleeds to death. On the battlefield, after Thor realized that Baldr had died, he was uncontrollable to the point that he was wailing for his dead brother. Seeing his condition, Freya pulls him out of the battlefield, and Loki realizes that Sigrid's only chance to kill the God of Thunder is gone.

Therefore, in his twisted logic, he kills Sigrid so that the Valkyrie can take her to Valhalla, where she will be reunited with Thor and can exact revenge on him.

What is Ragnarok? How did Loki set Twilight of The Gods Season 2?

While Twilight of The Gods Season 2 has not been confirmed yet, the finale leaves many questions for the makers to address in the next season. Loki's motives are explained in the finale, where he wants to bring Ragnarok to exact revenge on Thor.

Ragnarok is a catastrophic event in Norse mythology, which means the end or death of all Gods. It seems like Loki wants to usher Ragnarok because Thor had imprisoned Loki's children, Hel, Fenrir, and Jörmungandr. Since his motive is not realised in Season 1, he is expected to continue with his mission in the future.

As envisioned by Loki, Sigrid reunites with Thor in Valhalla, where the God of Thunder says that Loki played them both. However, Sigrid's clenched fist suggests she is still obsessed with revenge on Thor, which would continue in the saga in Season 2.
