Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary recently commented on what Canadians are witnessing, being the largest surge in support for the Liberal Party during the ongoing election phase.
Talking to BBC News about the same, Kevin is asking what this could mean for the country's future. He expressed his serious concerns over what the victory of the Liberal Party means for the future of the country, especially in the economic sector.
At the center is Mark Carney, who is leading the party towards a projected win. However, Kevin did not mince his words when describing what he feels another Liberal mandate would mean for the country.
"He's basically Trudeau 2.0 on steroids," O'Leary said bluntly.
The Shark Tank investor believes that Carney would not just continue the policies laid out by ex-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, but also intensify them. However, Kevin feels that these were economic mistakes that should not be repeated.
Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary comments on the sudden surge towards the Liberal Party under Carney's leadership
Talking about the massive voter turnout in Ontario's 905 region, the Shark Tank investor said that there is "something unusual happening." He drew a comparison to how Florida's votes have a similar decisive role in the American elections. The significance of the region is that it has the largest number of seats in the Canadian Parliament.
Even though there is a huge voter turnout, Kevin seems to be skeptical about what the Liberals' win could mean for Canada. Questioning his past leadership, Kevin asked,
"The question is simply this: Can Carney, who basically was the policy for Trudeau in the last five years that devastated the Canadian economy and brought 25% of the population to the poverty line, can he get that stink off his clothing by using Donald Trump as the shiny bead, for everybody to look at?
He added,
while he says, don't look at our track record, never mind we destroyed the economy and impoverished the country and dropped the currency by 40% and wiped out GDP, don't think about that, think about Donald Trump."
According to the Shark Tank investor, Canadians were being asked to ignore serious domestic economic issues that he has pointed out, in favor of focusing on the narratives of the foreign political figures, especially President Donald Trump.
Further criticising and expressing his "fear" for the future of the country, Kevin said,
"The policies that he put in place, including bills C-69, have destroyed the Canadian economy by keeping capital out of the markets. There's no GDP growth anymore, there's only debt spending. So, I don't know what the future looks like for Canadians under just more of the same."
Shark Tank season 16 episodes release weekly on ABC at 8 PM Eastern Time on Fridays. They are later available to watch on Hulu.
