Justin Hartley himself said in an interview with Collider that Colter is a person who keeps himself busy with work so that he does not have to deal with his issues and taking up a case that would require him to go undercover and take the help of Matalon proves the same.
He said in the interview,
"He’s one of those guys that will bury it and work a little bit, until he’s ready to deal with it. It’s also something that you don’t think about a lot when you think of Colter, but he’s got feelings. He’s probably hurt by it all."
