Shark Tank's Robert Herjavec appeared on fellow Shark Jane Lu's November 5, 2025 podcast episode. The duo discussed various topics, including their journey in different countries, how they started their business from scratch, and more.
Robert recalled how some of the companies do "pitches" similar to Shark Tank and get the best ideas to implement. Before sharing more on the subject, he asked Jane Lu:
"What's the biggest difference between Shark Tank in the US and Shark Tank Australia? What do you think? Top three things.
Robert Herjavec and Jane Lu discuss Shark Tank US and Shark Tank Australia
In one of the segments on The Lazy CEO Podcast, Robert asked Jane Lu the "biggest difference" between Shark Tank in the US and Australia. Before she answered the question, Jane Lu was surprised, as that was the question she wanted to ask Robert.
"The show is like the number one family show in the US. So it's it's got this like credibility and eyeballs, which then makes the pitches a self fulfilling prophecy because you get on the show, you get on the, you get the eyeballs. You kind of know, but like if it's a good idea, it's...it's already kind of pulls the business. So it's a safer investment."
She continued:
"That's one. Two. It's much more of a song and dance. The pitches. Third, they, they are bigger-scale businesses. They're like...they are at a higher stage because when I watched also the UK one, they're much more, there's a lot more even smaller."
After answering Robert's question, Jane Lu asked him the same question. In response, mentor Robert stated that the stakes were higher.
"I mean the stakes are higher because if you get a deal impact to you..we figured that you get about, just from one airing, we...you get about $12 million worth of advertising, just by being on the show," said Robert
Jane Lu agreed with Robert as he continued his thoughts about the stakes. The second thing was that the pool was bigger. He recalled that 200,000 people applied to be on the show last year.
Third was that the pitches are "much more polished." Robert mentioned that the pitches on the US version have been through five producers, and there are "bigger budgets" at a"bigger scale."
Further, Robert stated that Australians' pitches were different from Americans. Listening to him, Jane Lu recalled going to Paramount Network events and stated that Robert has been quite good at getting entrepreneurs to "talk" while pitching.
"The biggest difference that Robert sees, is that, the Australians are so chill," said Jane Lu.
Robert smiled and agreed to her. He recalled an incident from when he went to the show's Australian version. During one of the pitches, he stated they might be the "worst" pitchers he had encountered.
While Robert was waiting for the pitchers to get offended or get into an argument, the response was different. The pitchers replied that they could have been better. Robert referred to that as "very Australian."
