On April 3, 2025, Bravo premiered episode 4 of Top Chef season 22. This episode introduced the chefs to an exciting new challenge centered around trivia. In this round, trivia questions were posed to the teams, and their performances determined the ingredients and time they received as rewards.
Michael Cera was seen joining the judging panel. The Green team excelled during the trivia, earning 30 minutes with 8 ingredients, while the other teams were allotted 20 minutes and 4 ingredients each.
The Yellow Team landed at the bottom of the roster, securing only 15 minutes to prepare their 3-ingredient dish.
Corwin, a teammate of the Green team, was the standout of the episode. He excelled during the trivia and continued to impress in the Quickfire round, ultimately earning a $10,000 prize.
The first round gave each team member a certain time to prepare their dishes with the select ingredients provided. This challenge tested their creative knowledge base and how well the chefs would perform under pressure.
Top Chef Season 22 Episode 4 Recap - The main challenge
Top Chef saw three contestants excel in the first round. Before that, the trivia had questions about food, which would give the teams advantages during the upcoming challenge.
For the trivia, Jeopardy stars Amy Schneider and Mattea Roach were invited. There were food-related questions, but the hosts threw in some random ones as well to make the challenge more fun.
The Green team was ultimately able to excel at that, and they were awarded 30 minutes and eight ingredients. Corwin was the one to win the Quickfire, as he presented a scallops and ginger beurre blanc dish. Jokingly, he told all his family and friends back home that the $10,000 win would be used for bills only.
The two other contestants who were in the top three apart from Corwin were Shuai and Kat. The former made a salad that was loved by the judges. Kat worked on a lazy, late-night snack: banana Nutella toast topped off with a raspberry cognac sauce.
By the end of this Top Chef round, the judges decided that Tristen, Massimo, and Henry are at the bottom.
Top Chef Season 22 Episode 4 Recap - The elimination round
The Top Chef elimination challenge rolled out, which needed the chefs to create a savory Canadian dessert.
As the competition started, Zubair and Henry were required to give a twist to butter tart, but Zubair made so many "technical" errors that despite Tom being on his side as the judge, he was overpowered by the other three, claiming that he did not perform up to the mark.
The challenge proved quite lucky for Tristen, who, for the first time till now, has secured his position in the top three. He was required to be creative about the figgy duff. Paula was also criticized for her dish, and the judges said that she failed to combine the flavors that were expected of her.
Katiana and Shuai were on the jam-jam team, but they also failed to give the judges something impressive with the challenge. The former has the power of immunity and thus was able to take a risk in this episode.
Corwin and Tristen were the most appreciated of them all, whose dish was praised by the judges for being "yum."
By the end of the episode, we saw that Zubair had been put on the chopping block. He was sent home by Judge Kristen and others, but Tom decided to send him to Top Chef: The Last Chance instead. The one who wins will stay in the competition.
