Cillian Murphy's Tommy Shelby appears to be an invincible and fearful gangster in BBC's crime drama series Peaky Blinders because of the many vicious villains he fought against throughout the show's six seasons.

Aptly proving that a hero is nothing without the villains, the show has some of the most ruthless and menacing villains in TV history. They added more depth to the protagonist Tommy's character and proved why he is the leader of the titular gang.

While the show featured many villains, some were liked more than the others by the fans, and some were passionately despised.

Here are Top 5 villains in Peaky Blinders.

Top 5 Peaky Blinders villains

5) Inspector Chester Campbell played by Sam Neil

Sam Neil's Inspector Campbell is not only the most hated villain but also the most hated character in Peaky Blinders overall. Introduced in Season 1, Campbell was hired by Winston Churchill to confiscate the gun shipment stolen by the Shelbies. While Campbell was a man of law, his actions and personality did not match his position.

His vendetta against Tommy became personal in Season 2, as he lost Grace, who fell in love with the Shelby leader while undercover. Campbell finally showed his true colours when he secretly sent men to assassinate Tommy in the Season 2 finale but was instead killed by Aunt Polly.

4) Oswald Mosley played by Sam Claflin

Claflin's Oswald Mosley, the leader of the British Union of Fascists, remains the most menacing and brutal villain to Tommy Shelby and his ideologies in Peaky Blinders. Like Campbell, he also built an elite and sophisticated facade of eloquence, but underneath he took the help of Tommy's rival gangs to drive the Shelbies away by violence.

Oswald was a calculating and controlling man, and his presence was felt deeply in the show's later seasons. He remains one of Tommy's most hated political rivals.

3) Luca Changretta played by Adrien Brody

Brody's antagonist enters Peaky Blinders in Season 4, with a personal vendetta against the Shelbies. He was there to exact revenge from the Shelbies for killing his father and brother.

When Tommy saves Arthur, John, and Michael from the death penalty at the last minute, Luca becomes adamant about destroying the Shelby family. He remains the most hated villain in the show because he was partly successful in his plans, as his men killed John Shelby in cold blood in front of Esme and Michael. Finally, after being betrayed by the American mafia, he is killed by Arthur.

2) Michael Gray played by Finn Cole

Cole's Michael is perhaps the most complicated character in Peaky Blinders. He is Aunt Polly's biological son, who is later found and brought into the Shelby family by Tommy in Season 2. Michael was a young and bright kid when he started as an accountant in the Shelby business.

However, he was plagued by the family's dark side and later wanted to head the family like Tommy. Michael was motivated by his mother's death and Gina in Season 6, and he completely turned against Tommy in the final season. In the series finale, he is killed by Tommy after he tries to murder the Shelby head by placing a bomb in his car.

1) Alfie Solomons played by Tom Hardy

Hardy's Alfie Solomons, a Jewish gang leader introduced in Peaky Blinders Season 2, is the show's most loved villain. His unpredictability complicates his equation with Tommy.

While he started as Tommy's business partner, he betrayed him several times, even threatening Tommy's son's life in one instance. Still, Tommy identifies with his limitless ambition and hunger for power, which forces him to see him as more of an ally. He even tries to kills Alfie in Season 3, but he survives and returns from the dead in Season 5. Alfie is probably the only villain in Peaky Blinders who shares a complicated camaraderie with Tommy.
