From the pilot episode where he would proudly lift baby Lily to recreate the iconic The Lion King scene, the endearing and often dramatic Cam became an integral part of Modern Family. Played by Eric Stonestreet, Cameron ‘Cam’ Tucker is known for his unconditional love for his family, his obsession with musicals, and his passion for football.
Cam is the football coach at a high school, who moved from a small town in Missouri to live with his partner Mitchell ‘Mitch’ Pritchett (played by Jesse Tyler Ferguson). Cam is very protective of Mitch and their adopted daughter Lily (played by Aubrey Frances Anderson-Emmons). Cam’s outgoing and theatrical personality contrasts with Mitch’s reserved demeanor, making them the perfect yin-yang couple.
Modern Family aired on ABC for 11 seasons and through it all Cam has given us some of the most hilarious moments, thanks to his child-like innocence and vulnerable personality. Let’s revisit some of Cam’s funniest moments that define his character.
Top 5 hilarious Cameron Tucker moments
5) Cam - The Dreamer
Punkin Chunkin – Season 3, Episode 9
In the episode, we get to see Cam leading the family members into believing in themselves. It is Thanksgiving and all the family members have gathered at the Dunphy household. There is an ongoing argument on how the Pritchetts tend to be critical of everything, while the others who call themselves the dreamers wish to achieve the impossible.
Cam recalls a ‘Punkin' Chunkin’ contest back home, where he claims to have launched a pumpkin across a football field with a catapult. Mitch doesn’t believe in the story. Cameron, Phil (played by Ty Burrell), and Gloria (played by Sofía Vergara) take it upon themselves to prove Mitch wrong. In the end, everyone comes together to do it and they succeed.
4) Protective Dad Mode
Run For Your Wife - Season 1, Episode 6
As a new parent, Cam is always on top of things, however, there are moments when this overprotectiveness comes across. In the episode, baby Lily accidentally gets locked in the car. Both Cam and Mitch panic—Mitch tries to stay rational, while Cam gets dramatically emotional.
Cam takes a trash can near the parking lot and runs screaming to the car only to be told by Mitch that he will end up hurting Lily. Mitch finally manages to contact the car company and open the doors. The episode displays the perfect balance between Cam’s dramatic way of handling things to Mitch’s more practical approach.
3) Showmanship
Door to Door – Season 3, Episode 4
Cam’s love for melodrama is obvious from the first episode. After cooking, though Cam promises Mitch that he will clean up, he decides to ditch the work in order to help Gloria look for their dog Stella.
While looking for Stella, Cam suddenly finds his inner showman as he screams out ‘Stella’ on the sidewalk through the neighborhood, imitating the iconic scene from the movie ‘A Streetcar Named Desire’. They finally find Stella with a girl and get the dog back.
2) Love The spotlight
Travels with Scout – Season 1, Episode 21
Cam loves music and the spotlight, put the two together and he is in his happy space. When Dylan (played by Reid Ewing) shares that the drummer in his band has moved to Portland and they are unable to perform, Cam sees the opportunity to step in. He shares that he used to play drums and is fabulous at it.
At the show, Cam is enjoying being a part of the band. He gets carried away and plays his drum solo longer than expected, leaving everyone perplexed. Later when the original drummer comes back, Cam realizes that he won’t be part of the band anymore.
1) Being Fizbo
Fizbo – Season 1, Episode 9
The audience is first introduced to Fizbo in this episode where Cam decides to dress up as his clown character for Luke’s (played by Nolan Gould) birthday. Cam takes his role as a clown very seriously. Though Mitch is initially embarrassed by Cam’s costume, he’s impressed when Cam defends him at a gas station. Cam shows that even if he comes off as a vulnerable person when it comes to his family he will not let anything slide.
At Luke’s party chaos ensues, thanks to Phil’s fear of clowns, which leads to a chain of mishaps. Cam goes on to appear as Fizbo in several other episodes as well, but this remains a fan favorite.
