Apple TV and creator Jason Sudeikis surprised everyone with the Ted Lasso Season 4 announcement in March 2025. The sports dramedy, which debuted in August 2020, concluded its three-season run in March 2023.

But rising like a phoenix, Sudeikis announced Ted Lasso Season 4 and his subsequent return as the titular American football coach. The show follows Ted as he is recruited to coach an English Premier League soccer team despite having no experience with the sport.

Recently, actor and writer Brett Goldstein (Roy Kent) discussed Season 4's surprise renewal on the Wild Card podcast:

''Are you saying we can bring anything back?’ It’s too much power.”

Brett Goldstein discusses Ted Lasso Season 4

Ted Lasso being renewed for Season 4 was like a dream come true for fans and the cast alike as the Apple TV comedy was initially pitched for a three-season run.

However, following the success and love it has received from the audience over the years, Jason Sudeikis announced the renewal of Season 4. Recently, Goldstein discussed the Season 4 renewal on the latest episode of NPR's Wild Card podcast.

Retelling a story about his university friend, he reminisced about how his friend once buried his cat, only to find it alive and thriving later. They realised that the cat his friend buried was someone else's and his was alive. Discussing this surreal moment, Goldstein notes:

"I think about that all the time. I’m like, no wonder this guy is f*cked in the head, because he thinks death isn’t real, so of course he’s insane. He’s such a weird guy 'cause he thinks he can bring things back from the dead."

Discussing the renewal of Season 4, Goldstein then compared the show's resurrection to his friend's dead cat. He discussed how he felt the same way as his friend when his sports dramedy was picked for another season:

"I guess I’m saying I feel like that kid. Like, we buried it. We all cried, we had a funeral.''

Ted Lasso Season 4 was announced in March 2025

In a surprising turn of events, Sudeikis announced that the show was renewed for Season 4 in March 2025:

''As we all continue to live in a world where so many factors have conditioned us to "look before we leap,” in season four, the folks at AFC Richmond learn to LEAP BEFORE THEY LOOK, discovering that wherever they land, it’s exactly where they’re meant to be.''

Along with Sudeikis and Goldstein, actors Hannah Waddingham, Jeremy Swift, Brendan Hunt, and Juno Temple are also expected to reprise their respective characters in the upcoming season.

According to Deadline, the show is set to begin filming in Kansas in July 2025 and will soon cast new actors for Season 4.

Talking about Ted Lasso Season 4's story details, Sudeikis revealed on the New Heights podcast that the American coach will train a women's team in the upcoming season:

''That's what we're writing, we’re writing season 4 now. That’s the official word. Ted’s coaching, yeah, a women’s team. So there, that's it.''
