Tom Hardy, who featured in leading roles in the Venom franchise and Mad Max: Fury Road, leads MobLand, a new Paramount+ crime series. In the series, Hardy portrays Harry DaSouza, a veteran Harrigan family fixer. By episode three, Hardy's character is suspicious that one of the family members has betrayed them. Talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy explained,
"Someone would have to know where that [Archie's body] was—and that would have to have come from within our own family.”
MobLand is directed by Guy Ritchie, who also collaborated with Hardy on RocknRolla. The series debuted to strong figures, being the largest debut for a new Paramount+ original, with 8.8 million worldwide viewers, reports The Holywood Reporter. Hardy stars in the first two episodes, which are directed by Ritchie. The series is part of other Paramount+ hits such as 1923 and Landman.
The narrative is about the Harrigan family, an influential crime syndicate. Harry is an employee of the family and normally the one who has to clean up after their bloody blunders. The plot thickens following the death of Archie, a Harrigan associate. The increasing tension points to a question: who double-crossed the Harrigans?
Harry DaSouza and the Harrigan family dynamic in MobLand
In MobLand, Tom Hardy's Harry DaSouza is the trouble-shooter for the Harrigan family. He solves problems and cleans up their messes. When Conrad Harrigan, played by Pierce Brosnan, murders his friend Archie, Harry is then sent to cover it up.

Conrad is portrayed as strong but unstable. His actions are the catalyst for the events that unfold. Archie, played by Alex Jennings, is murdered because Conrad believes he has betrayed him. Harry, who has remained loyal to the family, then has to face the repercussions.
This tension places Harry in a tricky spot. Hardy told The Hollywood Reporter,
“Harry’s somewhat trapped inside being Harry. He’s got too much invested in it, both mentally, physically… there’s a sort of spiritual death that probably comes with some of the stuff that he’s done. But I don’t think he can escape.”
The discovery of Archie's body raises questions
The largest plot twist within the first few episodes of MobLand occurs when the police find Archie's body. This heightens pressure on the Harrigans. It also leads Harry to wonder how the police were able to discover the body, which was concealed.
Hardy explained to The Hollywood Reporter,
"How did they find him? We have to figure out how they found Archie’s body because that wasn’t easy to find." Hardy continued, " Someone would have to know where that was and that would have to have come from within our own family."
This suggests that perhaps a Harrigan insider told someone where the body was. It broaches the subject of a traitor within the family. No character is directly accused, but Hardy's words suggest internal betrayal as a major part of the plot.
It is unknown at this time who might have let the cat out of the bag. Yet the line "within our own family" preempts upcoming strife. More violence, suspicion, and disruption to the Harrigan operation may follow from this betrayal.
Rising tensions and outside threats
The Harrigan family in MobLand is already tense after Archie's corpse is found. Conrad's moves and the attitude of his son Eddie Harrigan are brewing more problems. Eddie, who is played by Anson Boon, stabs the son of arch-gangster Richie Stevenson in a nightclub. This move makes things worse.

Richie Stevenson, who is played by Geoff Bell, emerges as a fresh threat to the family. Meanwhile, Harry survives a bombing at his residence by the skin of his teeth. These incidents heighten the threat surrounding the Harrigans and further complicate Harry's work.
Hardy's character is treading "a razor's edge." Hardly ever does Harry encounter several problems from within and without the family. The weight of the police, rival gangs, and potential internal treachery is squeezing in.
New episodes of MobLand air Sundays on Paramount+.
