Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary, aka Mr. Wonderful, believes that the most crucial role of the government is to create a thriving environment for the economy. Talking about the same on The Iced Coffee Hour podcast in May 2024, the O'Leary Ventures founder told the hosts that the idea of competition creates an ecosystem for a healthy economy.
When the host, Kevin, asked about what, according to him, should be the role of government, he remarked:
"The government should be able to provide a regulatory environment. I think we saw this happen with crypto which is a good recent example of a Level Playing Field where all competitors can compete."
Elaborating more on the same topic, Mr. Wonderful mentioned that people have different versions of what they want from the government in sectors like healthcare. But, Kevin believes that looking at the major eleven sectors of the economy, most of them are regulated, and settling rules in place creates a pro-business, pro-job environment.
He emphasized on creating competition in the market and remarked:
"Let people compete because that's what created the American economy over 200 years ago was this idea of capitalism and competition."
Shark Tank investor Kevin O'Leary claims that he made money by understanding the policy
Investor and entrepreneur Kevin O'Leary does not bet his money on the ruling party but rather focuses on the policies in place. According to Kevin, the policies help him to identify which sector to invest in, eventually leading to a successful bet.
Kevin mentioned that he spends a lot of time reading about the policies of the government. He said:
"It's public information and I spend a lot of time on the capital Hill. I mean, I spend at least a week, a month now in Washington because I care so much about policy."
He also credited Shark Tank's popularity, which has helped him to get anywhere and derive the information he is willing to. Elaborating on the same, Kevin remarked that he hasn't met any politician or leader who doesn't like American entrepreneurship.
He further remarked, giving an example of various countries where his "Shark Tank passport" has allowed him to "drill down into policy" and said:
"I haven't met a leader a world leader anywhere that doesn't love Shark Tank and Entrepreneurship in their country and I mean everywhere. It could be United, it could be you know Doha, in Qatar, it could be France it doesn't matter."
