Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 is set to introduce a lot of figures from Greek mythology. Fans are excited to meet Annabeth's mother, Athena, the Goddess of wisdom, played by actress Andra Day; Thalia Grace, the demigod daughter of Zeus, played by Tamara Smart; and King Tantalus, who is also a son of Zeus, played by Veep actor Timothy Simons.
Fans are especially looking forward to meeting his Tantalus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2, as his casting was celebrated by the readers. He was interviewed by ScreenRant during the red carpet premiere of The Handmaid's Tale season 6. In that premiere event, Timothy Simons touched upon his experience with the mythical fantasy series based on Rick Riordan's books.
What did Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 actor say about his time in the series?
As stated before, the actor was a part of The Handmaid's Tale's sixth season premiere. On the red carpet, ScreenRant caught up with him when the interviewer expressed excitement about seeing the actor as King Tantalus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2. They asked the actor how he answered the call, to which Timothy Simons replied:
"I found that one to be an incredibly fun, wildly good time. All the adults in that show get to be so silly and just have a great time, and all the kids have to take everything deadly seriously."
After that, the actor humorously revealed that winning the role of King Tantalus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 helped him win the admiration of his kids, who entered the Percy Jackson universe just around that time:
"But this provided me with a lot of street cred for my kids, who had just gotten into Percy Jackson when I got cast. It really helped out around the house."
Who is King Tantalus in Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2?
The upcoming Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will adapt the second book of the series, The Sea of Monsters. In that book, it is revealed that monsters frequently attack Camp Half-Blood because Thalia's magical tree shielding the camp is mysteriously poisoned. Chiron, the camp counselor at that time, was held responsible and fired.
He is promptly replaced by Tantalus, a being from the Underworld who is cursed by the Gods to stay hungry and thirsty for eternity. After becoming the new counselor, he is highly unpopular amongst the campers. He makes things especially difficult for Percy, his half-brother Tyson, and Annabeth.
Despite saving the camp from an attack, he punishes Percy and Annabeth with camp chores and rewards Clarisse LaRue with a quest to find the magical artifact, the Golden Fleece, which could heal Thalia's tree. However, Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson manage to leave the camp despite not being given a quest to save Grover, who is also missing.
The blurb of the book reads,
"When Thalia’s tree is mysteriously poisoned, the magical borders of Camp Half-Blood begin to fail. Now Percy and his friends have just days to find the only magic item powerful to save the camp before it is overrun by monsters. The catch: they must sail into the Sea of Monsters to find it. Along the way, Percy must stage a daring rescue operation to save his old friend Grover, and he learns a terrible secret about his own family, which makes him question whether being the son of Poseidon is an honor or a curse."
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Season 2 will begin streaming somewhere in December of this year. Meanwhile, the first season is available to stream in its entirety on Disney+.
